Well,we arrived back in the UK late last night after two weeks visiting our family and what a two weeks it has been. On the very first morning after we arrived my Mother in Law collapsed and she has had a stroke.
Thank God though that we were there and when we left she had improved greatly although I still don't feel settled with the medical care she is recieving.
We did manage eventually to get her to a good doctor but we are still very worried about her obviously.
It's always diffiult to leave them, but this time espeially so. InshAllah she will continue to improve.

Oh no MM!
Really do hope that she gets the care she needs, it will just take time. It was good that you were there though, better to have been close to hand rather than 5 hours away wondering what is going on and relying on others for news.
I'll be thinking of her and hoping she gets well soon.
Thank You all of you X
It has been a big worry and more so now we're back in the UK I think we've phoned about six or seven times today, we just can't rest. I know that people sometimes say on here that you can get good medical care in Egypt but I have been disgusted with the treatment she has received
Thank God we were there otherwise I don't know what might have happened, and God Help the people who can't afford the basic medical treatments they need !

MM - I hope she gets better soon. Having been in the International hospital for 4 days I saw how some of the locals were treated [or not] - even those that were paying for the Royal suites didn't get good service all the time.
Thanks Phantom and BB I didn't know you had been in there BB was it this trip ? Yes it makes me despair when I see how the doctors treat people, at first they took her the the 'hospital' in New Qurna because they didn't realise she was so bad and they gave he an injection (sugar water probably) and sent her home ! Lifes cheap it seems hey ?
Sorry BB I hadn't seen your post about going into hospital until just now, hope you're feeling okay now.

But are your feelings coloured by the treatment you get in Britain? I would think that although basic by NHS standards, it is good by African standards - in my few visits to doctors, and the International Hospital, I was quite impressed by the service I received.
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!

Each time I see this thread I can't help but remember my own three, very different, visits to Spain. Just as some people have a negative experience in Luxor, if I was to dwell on holiday destination...
I asked if anyone had travelled from Luxor to Aswan in either a felucca or a motor boat because a friend and I really fancied doing it. After some thought the felucca idea was abandoned, didn't know...

I looked at that online a number of years back, maybe even just before the revolution, but as I couldn't find any reviews I decided it warranted a visit before using it or recommending it to clients....
I've been back home about ten days now, so I thought I ought to let you know what happened.
Firstly, the flight. This was Manchester to Cairo, then a separate flight down to Luxor. Check in was easy...

I didn't pay anything, it was the driver and he didn't tell me how much he gave them. I only saw the policeman at the second check point put his hand inside the car for money but couldn't see how...
I got back home yesterday afternoon from a UK Road Trip I took myself on. I should have done this a month or so back but had to delay it because I'd been fighting an ear infection for weeks, nay...
