Another introductory speech !!!
Hi there !!!
I found your wonderful sight recently.
My Egyptian tale is ..... 1988 Kuoni started charter flights to the place I had wanted to visit since 1969 !!! My friends didn't want to go so I flew off on my own. Was booked in at the Isis but made friends on the flight with 2 couples staying at the Etap. Had the most amazing time we went all over in a large taxi. Since then have returned with friends from home that were converted by my tales. Unfortunately due to the odd divorce and death and people deciding they can't fly anymore there is now only me again. When my mother also died in 2008 the first thing I thought was if in doubt go to Luxor, you will feel better. It was my 9th trip and yes the magic works every time. You get off the plane and a deep breath occurs, a calming one. Then you settle in and hear the familiar sounds and just get that feeling of being home.
I love reading all your posts, I loved one Stan made about the stone man near Snack Time. I assume he means the man in the "hole in the wall" whose pendants and stones we have bought over the years. Bless him he's so pleasant when you sit on the plastic chairs and converse without language !!! and the little man running up and down with his T Shirts well my dear best friend who died, ( honestly this sounds pitious but it isn't, just a fact of life) was a Phsychiactric Nurse so you can imagine the case notes she used to give me on his state !!
Favourite places .... The Rammeseum, my special place is a tree down the steps at the back. Medinet Habu. Luxor Temple,The Winter Palace gardens with it's hoopoes and the picture of the tiger in the lobby. Tombs of the Nobles, going in there to see the giraffe and bear after John Romer telling us about it. A lot of places have obviously been demoished now which is sad, I believe Aboudi as well and is now near McDonalds. A steak at Maxims. The local ferrry across to the west bank, flopping at Sinbads on return from trips. So many I won't go on too much. Cairo as well. I would like to thank you all for keeping me up to date with my lovely Luxor.
I hope this works as I don't quite understand all the tricks that seem to be on offer !!! maybe I'll experiment at a later date !!
I hope all gets better after the recent trials the country is having, and that sane people prevail.

Welcome Luxor fan. I know exactly what you mean about that feeling when you get off the plane. Even living here I still get it every time we return from abroad
Aboudi's shop that used to be in the corner near the Winter Palace is now down the street by the Passport Office, & many of his prices are lower than the one beside McDonalds

Hi to you too Marvin & Carrie !!!
Yes those flights were a god send weren't they.
I find it disturbing though that they seem to be knocking down so much of the old place. To my way of thinking they should have left all the old places. Yes build onwards and upwards if they want but so much character has gone. A bit like my hometown, once it's gone you can't get it back. And I loved reading my Egyptian Gazette in Amoun watching the world go by.
