just add a little lemon juice to fresh cream and you have sour cream. I have seen it on occasions at Omars and I think Arkwrights do it too.

Will one of the two funky new stores have the juhayna one in? Metro up here has it as standard fare in the cabinet with yoghurts in so we get that one most of the time. I'm sure we call it labna, although the arabic name on the juhayna box doesn't say that? :? Maybe labna is the Egyptian word for it?

If Mr G is feeling cheap - he sometimes gets it from a standard milk shop (the kind with the tons of yoghurts in a fridge and a big steel vat of milk near the door.)

The adding buttermilk method is for a sour cream sauce, the buttermilk makes it thick and velvety and the whey in the buttermilk sours it.

Put jibna garish in the blender with a spoon or two of milk and some lemon juice. In some cases yogurt is a good substitute too.

I've just been in Khair Zaman supermarket yesterday and they had sour cream containers (500 ml) next to rayeb and yogurt.

Oh  you are very clever Kevin :) I'm fairly dairy intolerant so never use any form of cream, the nearest I get is skimmed milk (but I can now get it here & not that slimy long life stuff either :D )

I have often bought sour cream at Omar's. But I am aware that it is very fat!
