Should have gone th ewhole hog and turned it into a table lamp..!!
Enjoying the cold then DrWho ? That's about a 15 degree temperature drop in the last few days...
I found a statue made from granite of Osiris last week, standing in the dining room of a stately home near Bangor..
Maybe I'll give Z.H a call, I'm sure they'll want it back
Didn't like the place from the second I clapped eyes on it, then I found out why.. the owner had got ludicrously rich from the slave trade...
Enjoy your stay in Blighty, at least the cold is one reminder of why you live in Luxor..

Does it light up at night like the Qurn does now?
They have done a cracking job on that....we don't need to use lights at night anymore the glow illuminates everything!

It's called 'Light Pollution'

I'm sure some law was passed about light pollution in the desert a while ago... ?? This "Blackpool Illuminations" theme all seems a tad ironic ??

As usual, I hate to disagree - from the East bank it really looks spectacular, and quite effective, if a little white, from the West.

I prefer the night time "Mystery" aspect of a dark desert...
It all seem's a bit like living in a western city, bathed in neon all night..
Could it be some extreme covert security measure ?? WARNING:-conspiracy theory..

- I understand that it's great from the East, but over here (go to your roof, Stan), it's more than a little white - it's blinding. Local people are already worried who's gonna pay for all that energy, they think it'll be added to their bill.
- Last night I thought that they had come to their senses and dimmed it, but it was just so foggy that you couldn't see anything anyway, it's been like that the whole day (go to the roof tomorrow night instead, Stan), but that white light is on at least until 6AM!
- Dr. Who, don't just leave us like this, there must be something you can DO

!

I like this one Z

could the illumination be to prevent nocturnal excavations now that the tomb sites are more visible?

HMmmmmm..
The locals got a very good deal for moving out of the valley....
( I got offered a share in one of the houses ; )
Yet the poor buggers in luxor got a really bad deal.. I wonder..

are you talking about the people who were moved out of Qurna?are you serious?....is that really your idea of a good deal?when did you last have a look at the new village?I went yesterday and its looking more like a ghetto everyday. The 3 metre wall stretches all long from Qbwy to the mountain,so its impossible to see the desert nor mountains anymore, and more walls are planned. It reminded me of what the nazis did to Warsaw.

It looked very nice when it first went up, and it was a vast improvement on what they had in the Nobles valley !!
cant comment on what has happened since though, I'll have to take a look next time I'm there..

I went there last week to see what a well-known local family had done with their allocation of 16 houses, right up by the hills. Pleasant shady gardens all around, lots of outside seating, well organised living spaces, modern working bathrooms, a few air-conditioners - one of the houses is to be made into a local coffee shop. The tarmac road hasn't reached there yet though. They even have a pigeon loft on the roof.
Yes, the houses in the main don't look too good, but as the area develops I'm fairly sure that it will become more pleasant to the eye. I guess it's the "Glass half full/empty" dichotomy.
And, I agree, the wall looks 'orrible!
