Chocolate orange strips

Yesterday I peeled and quartered a load of oranges and put them in the fridge and freezer and was wondering what to do with all the peel.
I have loads of orange and lime zest already in lime juice in ice cube trays and then into boxes frozen for handy hot drinks if we catch cold.
So decided to try something different and it is delicious.

Cut the top and bottom off the oranges and remove the peel if you can on one strip by making one cut length wise.
Then cut the peel into 1/2 cm strips. Remove as much of the pith as you can because that part is bitter.
Then bring to boil in a pan and simmer for a few mins, then drain. Do that 3 times to get rid of bitter taste.
Next add 3 cups of water and cup and two of sugar and simmer.
Simmer until the peel is tranclucent and the syrup is disappeared and the peel is sticky.
Dry on a tray and then next day you will have crystalized orange peel. You can use that in breakfast cereals or on cakes as decoration or eat as it is.

This morning I melted 2 bars of plain chocolate and dipped them in and dried them on a plate. Now they are sitting in a box in the fridge and I can't stop eating them!!!

Sounds delicious!!!

Too bad I am too lazy to do all of this . . . but I wouldn't mind eating it, hehe!!!

Oh, had those chocolate oranges before. . . but I don't think they use much "real" orange in those,

Now if you had topped the oranges similar to a boiled egg, then scooped out the flesh, you could have filled them with an orange sorbet, popped the top back on and frozen them for desserts. When required, take them out of the freezer and stand for a suitable period before serving them up.

Yes and you can do the same thing with pineapple, scoop all the insides out and mix with ice cream and any other fruits you like pop it all back into pineapple then into freezer and when you want to eat it just slice through you have a nice tasty sweet.

Have just been making sticky toffee puddings with toffee sauce and pecans which will be served with double cream :P :P :P Totally calorie laden but a nice change from Xmas pud and allowed once a year i think ;)

Good idea Horus,

I last had one of those in Spain and it was lovely in the heat. I love sorbet. Much more than ice cream :)

OMG!! sticky toffee pudding...............Image
