I've lost my Grannies personal cookbook. Really old and can't find it anywhere and I've also lost her scone recipe. Anybody have a good one to share?

English recipe for scones.
Makes 8-12 scones.
Preparation time less than 30 mins.
Cooking time 10 to 30 mins.
Ingredients.
225g/8oz self raising flour. (in Egypt, 225g/8oz plain flour, 1 level tsp baking powder and 1 level tsp of bicarb).
pinch of salt
55g/2oz butter
25g/1oz caster sugar
150ml/5fl oz milk
Method
1. Heat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
2. Mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter.
3. Stir in the sugar and then the milk to get a soft dough.
4. Turn on to a floured work surface and knead very lightly. Pat out to a round 2cm/¾in thick. Use a 5cm/2in cutter to stamp out rounds and place on a baking sheet. Lightly knead together the rest of the dough and stamp out more scones to use it all up.
5. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk. Bake for 12-15 minutes until well risen and golden.
6. Cool on a wire rack and serve with butter and good jam and maybe some clotted cream.

Use Wizards recipe but change the milk for buttermilk.
It's called Rayeb in Egypt.
That make a best scones
oh and make sure that the butter is freezing cold and dont worry if there are bits visible in the dough, and don't overwork the dough too much to make them light and fluffy. Sift the flour twice as well. Keep everything as cold as possible including buttermilk, and roll on a cold surface. The trick is to keep everything as cold as poss and to get it into the oven as soon as poss.

YES!! Wizard are you my Grannie!

;););) YES TY that IS her recipe! I knew it had the bicarb etc but forgot and all the recipes here kept saying "self rising" and from her day there was no such thing!
Great tips too Ebikatsu about keeping it all cold. I'd never thought about that one but logically it really makes sense! (Am not much of a cook

but I've had this yearning for scones lately and want 'em for Boxing Day brekkie and have searched for her old cookbook everywhere but I moved recently and am sure it is in a box somewhere)
Really appreciate the recipe and the hints!

Speaking of breakfast I still have lots of vivid memories of my Scottish Grannie cooking these really flat oat cakes in a frying pan and baking this yellow salt codfish for breakfast

Dunno why I just remembered this but just came back to me....her breakfasts!

Very hard to find scones here but I like them too. I'll have to try Wiz's recipe.

Isn't it sad? I actually broke down to buy one for sale in Starbucks, lol!! Needless to say, I usually avoid most of their baked goods now . . . definitely not work it! But I love their coffee!!
Ummmmm, I had scones with clotted cream (or some such) while I was in Australia . . . I haven't had any that taste so good since then. I don't remember if I tried any while in the UK or Scotland (totally separately it from the UK, lol).

I remember them bringing us clotted cream in England during one lunch or something. We were trying to figure out what to do with it.

I wish Starbucks would make cranberry scones! Love 'em but I like their raisin scones too! Actually made a batch of blueberry scones AND I used frozen blueberries so they didn't dye everything red/blue during cooking
