Although to be fair, the iPad screen resolution, and the fact that you can hardly see the screen in daylight makes it not the ideal medium to read books without eyestrain!

Thanks, Yildez! Another probably stupid question please. If you already have an account with Amazon, do you have to set up a separate account to download Kindle books or does it go through the same account?

I have decided that whilst here, I will not be buying an iPad, a kindle, or even the 'housewife's choice a PC, as I feel all are rubbish and are only fit for this years' gimmick and next years dustbin...

You don't think the new Retina Display is any good then, LiL?

Given that the original Kindle was introduced in 2007 and the iPad has been with us since 2010 how do you work out they're this years' gimmick?

Kindle, as are Ipad, are both "locked down" to a particular format/shop.
When you buy a new Kindle you even have to pay extra for an "ads free" version.
On a Kindle, there is no access to Google Play (the main source of apps for Android...apart from our friendly Pirate Bay!).
Equally so with IStore for Ipad (incidentally, when will Americans stop referring to Iran and Iraq as if they were Apple products??).

Not true of the Kindle, although it has it's own version (.azw) of the .mobi format. You're not locked in, as Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive supply their ebooks in the .mobi format as well as several others. And of course, there are an amazing choice of .mobi literature (if you call 50 shades of grey literature!) if you want to be Captain Jack!. I bought my kindle from Souq.com, and there are no adverts on it!

No, as long as you've registered your Kindle with Amazon using the same email address, ebooks will automatically be sent to your Kindle. If you have registered both Kindle and iPad, you select which device to send the ebook to.
Just be aware that if you live outside the UK, the original purchase of the Kindle needs to be sent to a UK address, and the registration with Amazon needs to be done with an email set up in the UK, otherwise you can't buy Kindle books. I ordered my kindle from Turkey to be delivered to a friend in the UK who set up a new email address and registered it, before bringing it out to me; same with the iPad. I've had no problems buying books and music.

You're welcomne Ruby. Do you live in Luxor? If so, maybe we could meet for a coffee? I'll be arriving in 3 weeks, and staying for 2 months. PM me?
