Carrie asked me specifically for some help and I answered to the best of my knowledge. But someone else coming in and incorrectly explaining what I said is not helpful. Next time someone asks me for help I'll take it to PM so that no one else feels compelled to waste their time on the issue.

The visa office here in Luxor and Hurghada does not accept visa applications after noon iirc

you said
"we had to send them in the morning for some reason which I have forgotten."

Because its closed in the afternoons iirc

Is not a snarky remark its probably the reason that you "have forgotten".

So you will send her a pm saying you don't really know when someone on here god forbid may know something you don't.

As far as I know as I too have not used them for years the VISA OFFICES do not do visas after noon both in Luxor and Hurghada.
I also know how different Gov Departments hours work here as I have been dealing with them for years but you referred to the visa offices.

As this thread is about the "secret Police" and the building in Tahir is the secret police building perhaps Carrie was talking about them but I assume their hours are "secret".

Bombay, I really wonder what your excuse will be when I actually am living in Luxor again.

They the Am-Dowla boys have checked me out for years bless them, "it's a 'dirty job but somebody has to do it. Else anarchy would rule.
I always tell the truth embellishing the odd bit here or there, like, prison, sarejevo, mafia, Israel, aversion to drugs, even my name….
'Egyptians of all classes and standing love a good story, So tell it well, 'embellish it., It is expected of one, offer coffee, a sweetmeat or two, always decline the offer to smoke, but if they insist indulge them.
If bold offer them a meister 8% it, f** most of them along with their illegally obtained hash.
The alternative so I heard 'like in the old days ways 'the truncheon colostomy without the grease, so I'm told…
It's better you telling them, rather than stories made up by the descent's locally that hate you and envy you, "So Dr's advice be Nice!…
PS: 'just remembered a time when the drug squad knocked on my office door, they wanted to place a 'ready-eye camera and raid the triad drug dealing centre, at Farringdon Station the X-roads for 3 major London clubs. I said "no problem Officers alway's willing to assist you boy's" … "Nick, show them the roof, they returned half an hour later, having been paraded up & down around our labyrinth and past 20 marijhana plants growing on the roof, Upon returning to my office and a beer later, I said "you'll love it here the girls will bring you coffee and drinks all night long, the coppers never said a word, they caught their dealers and the BBC news aired the whole thing..hilarious So be bold! ……...

Well that is some thing to look forward to. Please give me plenty of warning of where to avoid. :)))

Over the last 12 months we have had several visits from 'homeland security' right along the street, checking visas and passports of everyone, European, Egyptian or anywhere else. They have regularly checked surrounding streets and quite openly say they cover and check the streets of luxor. Fine by me. As I live right behind them, I am fairly sure they know what time I get home to pop round and check my papers :)

Luxor passport office is open in the afternoons as well as mornings. I normally wander in around 10 ish and ask her if she wants me back after 2pm or tomorrow. Cant say I noticed the increase in security in there, but was busy being introduced to all and sundry by Omars brother to take much notice.

Robbo above is exactly right as to what she says, this new force are doing very careful checks on a number of people in Luxor, that was my main reason I brought the subject back, as I have discovered a number of interesting details, and I am sure will learn much more when I arrive in Asswan.

I am amazed others on here who live in Luxor, have not had a routine visit as they call it.

My European neighbours have all had visits, but all I've received is a nod, but no wink as they knock at my door asking if so and so lives here. Must be saving me until last. :up The questions are always the same or so I'm told. Why have you bought property in Luxor and not the big H or Sharm. Why do you fly into Luxor so many times a year and what is your business here.
