Belatedly - many thanks to Bullet Magnet for his help in trying to sort out this problem. No matter what I did sadly it persisited on both my office pc and my laptop. Then, suddenly, I've stopped getting the alerts and all seems to have settled down and is working well again in IE.
On the other hand, Chrome - which I've had to use for Luxor4u, and other things, and to which I have gradually been moving things over to - keeps crashing on me! I don't think it happened in the past but it has crashed numerous times in the last week or so!
