What beautiful photographs from you and Jewel, I love the carpet of Autumn leaves. I love that Acer of yours Horus, but mine is a huge tree with Orange leaves now, well it did have. I am now starting to wonder if I have the right name for it.

Sue, Acer is only onother name for the Japanese Maple which is a tree, so there are many varieties as well as lots of dwarf species
They all start with the name Acer then another name such as 'Palmatum' for example, but the common feature is that they all have beautiful leaves that usually turn more vivid in colour during the Autumn.

We have a couple of acer in the garden - one has green leaves that turn golden in autumn but all the leaves have blown off that one, this is a larger red one the leaves go a lovely bright red in autumn (like virginia creeper) and I have a palmatum in a pot with lovely feathery leaves, but again all the leaves are gone

One of the things I was looking forward to seeing is the Autumn colours when I return but I hear there are going to be gale force winds in the UK on Monday so all the leaves will probably be gone when I return. So thanks for the photos I can look at them and imagine. They are truly beautiful.

Carrie, today is the most miserable, cold, wet day imaginable. Its the sort of day where I am sure I will need the light on all day to be able to see anything. This sort of weather makes me want to hibernate (or move abroad!)

No. he never chases any wildlife, he is a good lad, as I said earlier he has a very mellow and laid back attitude and just likes to mess about. If he does happen to blunder up to a Swan and they hiss at him, he looks quite surprised by the Swans stroppy attitude towards him.

As most of you know by now, I really like walking where there is some water. This is a different area to the original set of pictures, but you can see that the good Autumn colour is fairly typical of all the trees this year.

These were all taken at a local beauty spot that was more infamous some time ago as the haunt of the ‘Black Panther’ the notorious abductor and murderer of the heiress Leslie Whittle, her body was later discovered here. It does have another murder story to add to its history, but that tale goes back to Victorian times, maybe one day I will get round to writing about it.

Unusually, these are various conifer trees that are also showing colour, they are not dying as they do this each year.

These are not very good but they are my Acer last Autumn, this year it was much more orange coloured.

Nice pictures Sue in the second one you have clearly shown the typical Maple tree leaf shape, just like the one on the Canadian flag, only yours is the yellow version

Lots of lovely pictures, that is the one thing I miss here, the autumn colours (but not the weather that goes with them normally)

Thanks Horus, I do hope I manage to get a few pictures before all the lovely colours disappear this year. I rather like these photography posts and must try and find more time, I would like to also find some better pictures and contribute more in the future. It is such a pleasure though to look at other peoples pictures.

Have not had an opportunity to capture some of the autumn colour this year, and am feeling out of this brilliant thread.....Some lovely pictures from everyone.

Not to be outdone I grabbed a handful of leaves from a maple across the road and 'married' them with a last years picture.......just to join in

Glad you joined in Grandad that is a great composition, plus the additional effort you have put in to make it look so good
Often I think that we are all guilty of just browsing any thread and tending to forget all of the effort that is put in by the posters to try and entertain us in some way, whether that be visually or verbally.
That is why it is so good to see people making objective comments as it encourages others to add something of their own to the forum. So well done posters and well done all of you for commenting and encouraging us to do so.

Haven't been out & about to get myself yet

Continuing my reliance on last years autumn photos this is one of many from Sheffield Park Gardens, National Trust, last year.



To be honest I had to do a bit of 'dodging' of the left hand side of the trunk, and 'burning' of the sunny area because the contrast was too great.

What photo suite are you using Grandad to be able to tweek around like that?I've only got Picaso 3.

Nice bit of dodging & burning Grandad, do you not find that the Auto fix in Picasa sorts the Contrast out quite well if required? or did this one need a bit of special tweaking? Anyway it is still a very nice picture, nice and sunny
