Now my old unread copy of Heart of Darkness / Apocalypse Now, I always assumed was in Vietnam.
Not at all, Conrad was a steamboat captain going up the Congo River to Stanley Falls.
Where he encountered Col Kurtz. "The Horror, the horror" Marlon Brando..
So halfway through Hochschild's fascinating history of The Congo Free State [sic] I decided to use my new found toy YouTube, blow me down came across a 3 part interesting podcast based around the book.
.
Anyhow I recommend an excellent historical, eye-opening, read and I'm only on page 257..

Ps: That Stanley turns out was a right evil bar steward. And was welsh, makes sense...
Pss: Maria lent me her only copy of her 'A short History of Tomb-Raiding, she wrote it 3 years ago saying,
"And don't get any wine, beer,or G&T marks on it, I need it back in 2 weeks"
"Oh! The horror, the horror"
