Egyptair

Post by crewmeal »

What is it with this airline? All their flights depart anything from 1 hour to 5 hours late to and from Heathrow. It makes connecting very difficult.

I’ve booked on the direct flight to Luxor in October so I’m not too bothered if it’s delayed. However I hope my return flight is on time as I have trains booked at specific times.

We used the EgyptAir flights for years, but always left our homeward bound connections till at least 3 hours after the due landing time. There's plenty to sit and watch, while waiting at Heathrow!

Just been looking at flights prices for next August on Egyptair from Larnaca to Luxor
Flight price return per adult £385
Your in the air 2 hours but there is a stop in Cairo of 6 hours
To me that is disgusting and tells me they do not want tourists

That’s a ridiculous statement. Cyprus doesn’t have the numbers that would want to connect in Cairo for Luxor. The majority of flights from mainland Europe do connect with flights to Luxor. Egyptair work hard to get tourists to Luxor with plenty of charter flights especially from Spain at certain times of the year. TUI and Easy start direct flights from Manchester and Gatwick from November. 2025 could see more flights to the region.

Once upon a time, there were two cruise boat from Cyrus to Port Said, that made regular trips for tourists, however that was a long time ago. Ealier this year, my flight to Hurgarda with Tui was less than £400. I now see that flights from Gatwick, again with Tui to Luxor are even less than that, around £360

Twenty five years ago my flights to Luxor were around £350 with what was known as an open ticket in those days. I'm sure many on here will remember a flight with Thomson's and a two week stay at a good hotel came in at a very similar price.

Today we see that EgyptAir would like us to pay around £800 Heathrow to Luxor even with a closed ticket. Not sure what the game is here, so I leave the question open?

Arrived on Egyptair flight from LHR yesterday. Of course the flight was delayed for almost 1 hour even though we were all onboard 20 minutes before departure. Ther were no changes to the routines on arrival at Luxor Airport.

Yes, fully operational. 2 cartons of cigarettes and one bottle of spirits unless there is an offer (Grants Whiskey) in which case 2 bottles. If buying spirits you also have to pay $13 in cash as well as the cost of the spirits. No receipt given for the $13 cash !!! The credit/debit card machine was not working so I also had to pay for the spirits and cigs in cash.

Money ? Luxor ATM's.....

Lose your CC and what then ?
I will only ever use a main East Bank bank...

Nick lost his when the West Bank machine ate it, it took me to lose my 'rag until, he opened up the back of the machine.
I once had mine eaten, large main bank, went to see my mate Alia from the fag shop, off we went to the bank.
He goes straight behind the counter "jabba jabba jabba" and bang, hands me my CC.

Turns out the manager was a cousin...'cash is still king in Luxor....as is "old is gold"...... 8)

Ps: Personally living in a land surrounded by err' tea-leaves opportunists, I find keeps one on one's toes....

Many thanks for the up to date info.

If you possibly can you give an update on how you find things in general, whether they be good or bad, or even avoidable, hope you have a good holiday.

I’ll be off to Luxor next month and instead of doing a package I’ve decided to go independently. I’ve booked the flight direct to Luxor (Netflights) and hired an apartment on the West Bank. I’ve also booked a car to take me to and from the airport both courtesy of booking.com.

I’ll report back after the trip

As far as I can tell, A-Four, there is no change here. I left Luxor in June to spend the summer in UK and now back to my normal life here in Luxor. Streets seem to more busy probably because school is about to start and of course it's the Prophet's birthday celebrations
