The government has now published comprehensive details of the covid-19 test required for everyone entering the UK.
The rules come into force 18th January 2021.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus ... it-through
For those travelling from Egypt, the approved places for taking a test are set out at :
https://www.clab.mohp.gov.eg/
It’s down to each individual to ensure that the test they take, and the supporting information supplied, complies with the requirements set out in the UK Government statement and, of course, the requirements of the airline/ carrier with whom they are travelling to UK.

Well that makes things a little clearer. At least everyone knows where to go now.

Re: Travel requirements for UK arrivals
Good luck with explaining that to your Egyptian testing site....assuming they provide a range of testsThe test must:
meet performance standards of ≥97% specificity, ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml
this could include tests such as:
a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test
or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests
an antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device
It is your responsibility to ensure the test meets the minimum standards for sensitivity, specificity and viral load details so you must check with your test provider that it meets those standards.

That translates as “Isothermal amplification by loop”.DJKeefy wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:37 pm Ana mish arf![]()

Not bad.....worth a try! Then again...they may hang you (loop) from the nearest fridge (isothermal)

Seriously, if this malarkey is still required if and when I get to Egypt, I’ll just ask for “PCR “. I think that should register.

I have heard that a lab off TV Street do the PCR test. I think I would rather go there than the Fever Hospital.

The important thing is to ensure that whatever test you take complies with the conditions set out in the UK gov announcement, that such is verifiable and that the paperwork gives all the necessary details.carrie wrote: Fri Jan 15, 2021 5:52 am I have heard that a lab off TV Street do the PCR test. It would be surprising - especially in Egypt - if a number of outfits didn’t try and jump on the bandwagon with the prospect of charging unwary travellers hefty fees for a “certificate”. At least, if you stick to the approved sites, there’s less likelihood of being scammed...or your test results being queried.

Re: Travel requirements for UK arrivals
It's important to add now that it has been announced this evening (15/01/21) that there will now be No Travel Corridors into the UK. Everyone entering the country will be expected to Self Isolate for 10 days - day one starting the day following arrival.

it is what you do with what happens to you.
