I believe the woman is Dusty Springfield.
The horse? I haven't a clue.

We actually met Rusty Springboard in London probably that same year. We were heading up to Cadwell Park for a weekends motorcycle racing. Cannot remember the actual drinking location though. I do remember us rolling our Sunbeam Rapier into a field at about 2am on a dark road north of Peterborough. Rolled it back out and carried on with no windscreen.

I didn't even see the spoiler. I saw the photograph of Dusty Springfield and had a trip down memory lane.

I can’t help thinking about Dusty without recalling that foghorn voice and eyeshadow that would have put a giant panda to shame

That's how I recognized her lying at her feet, those dark eyes. She helped me up asking
if I was ok ? I spluttered yes, and ran off I was late for the 2nd shift.. 8)
Ps:Later, I bumped into Cliff Richard and later Sean Connery,
I was always running and always late. Not literally bumped into, as physically bumping into Dusty...

My hotel The Stafford in St James' was a right old den of gamblers.
From the hotel manager down to the lift boy, even our guests, Lester Piggott, Georgie Muir, Col Ryan Price ect.
I dislike gambling with an intensity, it's a mug's game.
Anyhow the Hotel's sweepstake, I got the funny Irish horse 100/1 outsider..

Never watched the race got back late for my shift as usual, the hotel was in a funny mood, "I had won!
Foinavon 100/1 the rest all fell down, basically the slowest horse in the race won the Grand National.
I paid a month's rent, bought some trippy clothes and spent the rest on drugs..
'Well it was the 60's and I worked in a busy hot, sweaty, pro kitchen... 8)

Ps: Arkle was from the same stable....
Pss: I was also sent down to Aintree as an apprentice to spy for the hotel..
5am start 'sod that, 'ruddy huge things them horses!
"Good old Foinavon, bless him RIP ol pal...

Just spotted this St James's Palace, just down the bottom of our street. Well it was then... 8)

"Seventeen days after winning at Aintree, Foinavon, *Susie the goat, and John Buckingham were invited to a charity reception at St James's Palace in London hosted by the Duchess of Kent. wiki.
Ps: *Susie the goat ? was his stable mate...ahh!
Pss: One imagines! that the reception was held on the ground floor..

Ah, the Sunbeam Rapier. I loved the fastback version form the late 60's with the Holbay H120 engine ( 120 = 120 BHP )

The engine sadly never lasted very long, maybe 30 K miles before the bottom end of the engine started knocking :urm:
But back then people didn't do big mileage.

Our neighbour in Sheffield had one in Orange. A lovely looking car ! :up
I hoped we would get one, but we ended up with a Renault 12 TL instead.

Still, that car saw mum through to her last days.. RIP Both... 8)

Shame the passing of Lester Piggott.
He was a quiet and humble person and very shy, due to his nasal inflician.

Regular as clockwork they dined two of the World's top jockeys and a couple of crooks... 8)

Ps: He only ever ate salad or a bit of fish....he had his own helicopter even in 1976..
