Living in Laandan..
New approach...
On the roof last night planning oh! and drinking, Barb my mate an ex Yank & hippie wants bees,
she got the railings, and 400 grand for the yard..but we are a long way from home yet.
See, anybody round here builds, we wrangle some cash out of them, 'planning gain.
Anyhow we are working on solar & wind and a large 'herb garden perhaps pigeons,
all we have to do is make it safe, safeish..Oh! get permission but we have a lot of Jeremy's left wing
planners as mates. They love doing this stuff it's anti...
Islington might sound posh now but, it still has the biggest social housing, which is pretty cool actually!
And our little manor is right gentrified....
Ps: The squatters 25 years ago would parasail down into empty flats, it was no go for police in those days.
'most of those cars were stolen...
Ps: Grayson has a new programme Ch4 thursday!

Re: Living in Laandan..
Another missive just now from Her Maj's boys...
My Dear George..
My Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advice against all but essential international travel continues to apply for the whole of Egypt....xxx Liz.
'It's her personal touch that gets me.'bless!....
Ps: The personal touch, I used to comically say to my mates at an RTA "arise get up and walk"
Never worked though, perhaps once it did...
The royal touch (also known as the king's touch) was a form of laying on of hands, whereby English monarchs touched their subjects, regardless of social classes, with the intent to cure them of various diseases and conditions. wiki:

Re: Living in Laandan..
Somebody wants to interview me about The Tardis so was looking at old pictures of London.
It was once a BR parcel depot.
It's now Farringdon International Gateway.....
Came across this, The Egyptian Hall in the Dilly, Belzoni the Great (local lad 'sadlers wells)
archaeologist, bit like myself once did an exhibition there.
https://www.wondersandmarvels.com/2013/ ... -hall.html
Interesting eh ? ............
Ps: A couple on Egypt programmes tonight on ch4.
It's a toss up, watch the telly eat chicken or go to a rave ?

Re: Living in Laandan..
Continuing the Tardis theme..
I found it by climbing up and looking over the wall in Turnmill Street.
A tattered old BR sign stating 'to let...
'Jack ketch's warren, where gin was made....
Booths Distillery. Later to become Turnmills Nightclub.
It looks like this now.
But the old freeze was saved and stuck up round the corner in Britton St.
This is what gin can do to you!
Ackroyd in The Jerusalem Tavern Britton St....

Re: Living in Laandan..
Still researching online and found this picture then spotted myself, lol
Here an interesting one from the 60's an American Airforce man posting a letter home....
Ps: Last wednesday we had a meet round our place with a mate from the council, he
tells us they used to keep police horses under our building, he's getting us the keys. ha!

The Police Box designed by Scottish architect Gilbert Mackenzie Trench,
Who also designed our building and two other 'highly fortified London police blocks in 1929.
The Tardis, 'time and relative dimension in space or our sound company Sardis, Sound and relative ect ect....
Bruce once told me a copper locked him in one once as a kid.
He got out and ran off...
I cannot wait to investigate our underground stables....

Re: Living in Laandan..
Coming to grips: I'm getting restless...
But found this on Netflix https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4206804/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3
It's great quite locally based, although filmed in Ireland, it's well filmed and acted with a wicked plot.
The production company is from down in Dallington St 5 minutes away, loads of film companies round here.
How about this bit:
Clerkenwell has an interesting history and many literary associations. Past residents and habitués include Daniel Defoe, Charles Dickens and Anthony Horowitz, Samuel Johnson and Oliver Goldsmith, poet John Weever, and the pioneer librarian James Duff Brown. The earthly remains of Defoe, William Blake and John Bunyan lie in the Bunhill Fields Burial Ground. Clerkenwell is home to the Free Word Centre (our usual meeting place) and the Betsey Trotwood pub, named after one of Dickens’ characters and itself a noted literary venue. The Guardian and Observer once had their offices just up Farringdon Road. And literature is only part of the story. The area is steeped in blood, villainy and sedition. We’re in good company. It encourages us to do better.
It makes one feel really 'humble, don't it ?....

Re: Living in Laandan..
Our block is a great recycler, you can come here from anywhere, 'Syria seems popular at present.
Have not even 'the shirt on your back, given time and patience one can furnish a whole flat here.
And, If nobody wants coffee machines, chairs, beds, blinds, baby carriages (popular) suitcases,
VHS tapes & players, TV's (flat screens) books, our council happily remove it after 5 days...
Off up to M&S this morning and spotted this little item, haven't played it for years.
Sim say's "good find! 'nice box"
I said "if we get bored we can always use the box for other 'smokey things..

Ps: Brutus the Cat, cannot wait for another Amazon delivery, 'what's' with cats & boxes ?...
Pss: I've been waiting to find a Swan 'teasmade for 10 years now! lol.
P*ss: I was just informed that 40% of our flats are leasehold, suckers...

Just looked in to see if anyone is still alive over here. Found your thread Who which I found most interesting, not least because not once did you utter that dreaded 'Covid' word. At least there seem to be other things to talk about, please let the BEEB know.

Sounds like your having a great time in Smokie Dr, in fact too greater time to want to return to Luxor! Could it be a change for the better or is it a flash in the pan?
