Statues.....

Post by Who2 »

Simona and myself were bemoning the lack of any statues round here to deface or topple.
'Lockdown syndrome....

Weird considering the fact Clerkenwell Green, is the rendezvous & rallying point for the disfranchised
ever since Watt Tyler's day.
We do have a bust of Karl Marx and a proposal for a statue of Emily Pankhurst on the Green
(that hasn't been green for over 400 years)

Anyhow, looking up 'Topple the Racists website (catchy title) the list starts at Lord Nelson through to
Sir Francis Drake including Sir Robert Peel, MT's mate and it runs into the hundreds....
Somebody even wants to topple Eric Morcombes', worlds gone mad.

Just remembered, we do have a statue, a war memorial up the road the Angel.
15699
Islington tried to nick it, we fought them..

And a great august summers 'drunken evening on our Green, when Banksy unveiled his 'Scales of Injustice.

nb: 'One cannot have a decent revolution without the pubs, QED.
Ps: Bloody Jeremy's council tore it down, 'ruddy philistines..

One last point: ........

There can’t be a person’s statue anywhere that some loony wouldn’t demand be taken down because it offended their sensibilities.

Virtue signalling gone mad.

I wondered if the Virgin Mary cradling baby Jesus (de rigueur in most Catholic schools) would defy condemnation.....but then remembered the Taliban.

George Orwell just got the date wrong -

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

Im also a bit worried on behalf of the Yorkshire town I go back to every summer. Its named after a Viking raider named Skarti
who raped and pillaged and burnt the settlement to the ground. Nobody's objected so far but I suppose its only a matter of time...........

There's 7 statues of Robert Peel, I never knew we held law and order in such a high regard.
Let's hope the 'peelers, the forces of law & order protect their founders effigy's.... 8)

Ps: Question: 'On what show do police officers solve crimes committed by garden gnomes ?
Answer:

just had an email from a friend in the UK, part of which read
" I did see an amusing picture on Facebook this morning of a statue of George Formby on the Isle of Man with a caption that read 'nobody has come up with a reason yet but it must be offending some tosspot snowflake somewhere'."
Made me smile.
