The fast verry.
The following has recently been posted on Facebook by Friends of Egypt support tourism to Egypt. (Personally, I find it frustrating that the prices are given in EGP for Egyptians and $ (USD) for other nationalities. )

Re: The fast verry.
The design of the ship is conventional therefore to assume its fast like a twin hulled/hydrofoil Greek ferry is naive.
What are the speeds/trip times that justify such gross fares. One fare would get you an overnight ferry trip in very high wage Australia where such wages inflate much in the tourist market. For these fares you would get several days of untrammeled transport on all of Sydneys fast and slow ferries.
My memory of the crossing is deeply ingrained. Overcrowded, badly maintained boat, putrid toilets, the captain as high as a kite and inadequate life boats/buoys.

Re: The fast verry.
Apparently it takes an average of 90 mins.....much as it did years ago.
How long the toilets will remain serviceable is a moot point.
It’s pricey. It’s cheaper to fly from Luxor to Sharm!
As for the timetable, while they may give one only someone unused to Egypt would give it any credibility.

Re: The fast verry.
Which is what caught me some years ago when I took the ferry for a 3 day break in Sharm.
The return was cancelled due to weather conditions...although it looked flat calm to me. The 8 hour return to Hurghada by taxi was not a trip I’d care to repeat.

Re: The fast verry.
The same company - tri national state owned, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, has a fast, twin hulled, Australian built 200 seater that was built around AD2000 and, given the maintenance skills of locals is probably still operating. Apparently it operates in the Gulf of Aqba so it might be focused on the well healed Jewish trade rather than penny pinching backpackers or those Brits who have bought a Thomas Cook package.
Why this boat isn't doing the Hurghada route might be a question that only an Egyptian Supreme General(ismissio) Manager would know the answer to.

Re: The fast verry.
That would be the Babel which runs between Taba and Aqaba...handy for Petra
http://www.abmaritime.com.jo/en/touristic_line
Other, larger and car carrying, vessels run between Nuweiba and Aqaba...the Princess and Nefertiti.
The revival of Sharm, and the demise of Taba has, I presume, led to the relocation of Nefertiti to the Hurghada- Sharm run.

Good news if you intend to use the ferry from Hurghada to Sharm....that’s if it ever starts!
Remember to have a pee before you board (unless you’re a fan of Egyptian latrines) as the journey time is 2 hours 30 mins.
