Entrance Fees for GEM

Post by newcastle »

The entrance fees for GEM....

“Prices of the Grand Egyptian Museum for foreigners and Egyptians:
Foreigners:
• 500 pounds combined ticket to visit all halls
• 400 pounds to visit the hall of King Tutankhamun
• 200 LE to visit the main hall
Egyptians and Arabs:
• 60 LE group ticket to visit all halls
• 50 pounds to visit the hall of King Tutankhamun
• LE 30 to visit the main hall
Egyptian and Arabic Student:
30 pounds ticket to visit all halls
Children under the age of 6 are free admission
The price of an entrance ticket from the external gates of the museum complex is deducted upon entering the museum or using any of the services inside the museum complex.
Comment: Prices from the chamber of tourism and travel agencies approved by the Supreme Council of Antiquities on July 30,
The opening of the museum will be in 2020 .”

Not cheap....compared to the British Museum...which is free!

Not sure about giving Arabs reduced entrance. I imagine these are more affluent than foreigners generally.

Also smacks of racism.

Glad I've already seen it, because the fees are ridiculous!

Been to the Egyptian museum loads of times but I would be happy to pay 500le to go and have a look at GEM. From what I have seen, on line, the building itself looks spectacular
.
What a delight it will be (hopefully) to see the exhibits displayed and labeled properly. I just wish they would hurry up and get the place finished and opened.
