You might be familiar with Egypt’s fascinating ancient history, but what about the Egypt of the 1930s? This album contains 48 photographs taken in Cairo, Luxor, Karnak, Thebes, Dendera, and Abydos of temples, statues, and even the Sphynx. You don’t need to travel back in time or take a vacation to explore!

Interesting collection. The Sphinx looked clean and cleaned around in the ‘30’s with paws in better shape than now.

The Needle of Matarieh – where is it now – in someone’s garden in Heliopolis?

The Avenue of the Sphinx’s was in better shape then than now and properly landscaped rather than a violent incision through suburbs of 4 story modern blights:

If the buldozer and human rights abuser governor, Farag, (much loved by several posters who have gone silent in recent years but not much loved by villagers on the West Bank )had restored it to anything like its '30's beauty then even I might have changed my view about that military bombast. Some good 'restorations are merely taking the buildings back to how it was displayed before the military came to power in '52.

It is where it has always been.
