Google celebrates discovery of Khufu Ship with Google Doodle

Post by DJKeefy »

Google celebrated on Sunday, May 26 the discovery of the Khufu ship in 1954 with a Google Doodle. It is considered one of the world's oldest and largest ships.

The Khufu ship was discovered in the vessel inside the Great Pyramid of Giza 65 years ago by Egyptian archaeologist Kamal el-Mallakh after he drilled under a stone wall on the south side of the Great Pyramid.

Mallakh then uncovered a group of stone blocks covering a hole in the ground, which held a series of carefully piled cedar wood planks, ropes and other parts needed to reconstruct the ship.

Khufu was the second pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty who ruled more than 2,500 years before Jesus was born.

The ship is also known as a solar barge because it is believed that it was placed inside Khufu’s burial chamber to use it to sail across the heavens after death with the sun God Ra.

The massive well-designed ship is 4,600 years old; it is very well built as it could still sail if launched back onto the Nile today.

However, it was a real mystery how ancient Egyptians had made their vessels, forcing restoration scientists to learn from scratch about shipbuilding.

Over a decade later, restoration experts succeeded to put together the 1,224 separate pieces into the 44-metre long boat.

The restoration process was headed by Haj Ahmed Youssef, a restorer from the Egyptian Department of Antiquities, who studied ancient Egyptian boat-making only to restore the Khufu boat . He also visited Nile shipyards before reconstruction began.

It is now shown inside the specially-built Giza Solar Boat Museum, just outside the pyramid. A second dissembled ship was also discovered inside the pyramid and reconstruction began in 2011.

Khufu was known to the Greek world as Cheops. Besides ordering to build the Great Pyramid of Giza, little information is known about his era.

Never understood why they built a ship shaped hole to put the ship in and then smashed the ship up ?
Strange lot them Egyptians... Certainly not Pyramid builders though..

Well it isn't a ship shaped hole, it is a much smaller in size rectangle than the ship, rather like the box your self assembly kitchen would come in. It wasn't "smashed up" either, it was very carefully taken apart and it could be and was reasembled again.

The hole was probably repurposed back in the times when the myth of Egyptians building pyramids was created.

Water, water, dont taste like it oughta. Hydrogen and Oxygen the 2 most combustible elements known to man.
How did we forget ? The Ancient Greeks knew all about the GP, they just decided that its better to call it a tomb..

Everything they don't understand becomes a temple or tomb out there, infact just about anywhere in the world...

You seem to be the only one who has forgotten ;) You have made the classic mistake, Oxygen itself is not combustible, it is known as a catalyst gas because it only ‘aids’ combustion, it does not ignite in its own right. Hydrogen can only explode in the presence of air which of course contains the catalyst gas Oxygen.

I remember them finding 4 similar boats out in the Western Desert,
they did loads of research then chucked the sand back over them GPS'd them then just walked away.
There is so much stuff out there you would just tell me I was 'lying if I told you.
I didn't wander all the way out there just for the views, now did I ?...... 8)

There are literally dozens of “solar” boats dotted about Egypt , many at the pyramid sites but a number elsewhere.

Their purpose is the subject of some conjecture.

Yes, I guess I forgot to mention the 2 gasses need to be mixed, which they woudl be during the ectraction process, since it needs spelling out to people.

Now as for Solar boats being dotted about the desert, it does rather say something about the landscape at the time, and from what we are told, the Saharah has been a desert for 20 million years. ! That may be true, but no where near as much of it as we may think ?

but clever people could probably reclaim a good proportion of that desert, but as A-Four pointed out in his recent post, that requires lots of maintenance to keep the silt at bay. Forget to do that, and suddenly you are forced to retreat to the Nile.

regarding the GP video, the answer lays in the "lower chambers" of the original source I posted.. as to why, now that is a completely different matter.

Pyramids as tombs ? I really doubt that, but then if the story is changed and told often enough and the ruling classes tell the academics what to say and that propogates down to the masses, then eventually people will know no different..

How can things like milling stones and mortar and pestels turn up in the mdiddle of the desert when man was not even supposed to have been there if the desertification timeline is true..

This I believe is much more accurate

https://www.livescience.com/4180-sahara ... lated.html

and can prove that the land of Egypt was much bigger than anyone expected, and they were not simply clinging to the Nile for existence, and that the pictograms showing pharoes on chariots hunting in a lush savannah are true, and that lush savannah was close to the ancient sites we know today.

It throws the Pharonic timeline out a bit, which is a tad inconvenient, and perhaps the Ancient Greeks have something to answer for ?

Some scientists believe that the Sahara desert may have existed up to 7 million years ago as the great Tethys sea dried up when the African continent collided with Asia, but generally it is accepted to be in the region of 3 million years old. During that time it has gone through many cycles of being wet and lush to completely dry as it is today mainly due to glaciation or the earth’s tilt, the last lush period was probably around 12 thousand years ago. It is highly likely that with the onset of another dry period (that would have taken a few thousand years to have a full impact) that people living in the lush inland regions steadily migrated to a constant reliable source of water as the desert encroached into the fertile regions. This would fit very nicely with the rise of Egyptian civilisation as many of these migrations concentrated along the Nile.

Or aliens from outer space periodically irrigating the desert whilst teaching the early humans how to construct pyramids
