The average increase in electric bills for households will be 29%. The increase in electric bills for factories will be 41.8%.

During the conference, Shaker also presented on the size of the electric power generated by the power stations the government has built and upgraded in the last four years, as well as the government's plans in completing under-construction stations and the development of solar energy plants.

The new hikes are the part of the government's efforts to close budget deficit as part of its economic reforms program.

The new prices will take effect in July.

I think that I've been paying this increase for the last 18 months. Yesterday I payed for my two flats, although my tenant pays her own bill. Her flat was 1,745 this month, mine was 1,445. The upstairs flat which is basically empty ten months a year was 220. My water has also been steadily increasing per month, around a five hundred percent hike from two years ago. The electric man says its my own fault for using so much, yet for the last seven years I've been a relatively low consumer of both water and electric. When I first connected to the grid I was being charged 100Le per 1,000 units consumed. I would of expected and excepted a two hundred percent increase over the years, but not to this extent. Yet another foreigner money making hit me thinks. And we are still getting power cuts, five over Ramadan, and the water has been off several times during the same period.

We both have a fistful of these high electricity bills we have had to pay over the last eighteen months. These are not the highest in regards to a few of them.
