It is a civil ceremony Yildez, but they clearly must still insist to see proof of conversation from a man wishing to marry a Muslim women if he was born non Muslim.
We had to declare our religions and these were noted.

OK I get it now ;) . Its the European man that has to convert if he marries a Muslim lady. Apologies,I was basing it on a European lady marrying a Muslim man! (my own experience)
It must be a huge commitment for any man to do this,in order to marry his loved one.

A pal of mine Steph converted and married a Muslim girl.
He changed his name to Mohammed had a kid and was a great house painter.
On Fridays he was always late for the Mosque, he went covered in paint and no-one battered an eye lid.
Later it was discovered when he married her she was only 15 and from a family of shamutas, the whole family were at it.
The Father went to jail, Steph went to Thailand I think, but the girl whom he married,
her using her sisters name now works as a cleaner in Luxor airport, I still bump into her when leaving.
So beware when marrying anybody......... 8)

It's not compulsory. It's up to the convert.

You are joking? having a laugh?

I thought circumcision was not mentioned in the Qur'an (so not a religious thing) and was only done for cleanliness :ni:

Circumcision is mentioned several times ( for boys) in the Qur'an. It's recommended but not compulsory.

From the BBC website:
Circumcision is not mentioned in the Qur'an but it is highlighted in the Sunnah (the Prophet Muhammad's recorded words and actions). In the Sunnah, Muhammad stated that circumcision was a "law for men."

Circumcision is not compulsory in Islam but it is an important ritual aimed at improving cleanliness. It is strongly encouraged but not enforced.

Sorry.....yes, sunnah rather than Qur'an itself.

As an act recommended by Mohammed it's pretty universally followed by muslims. Not that the young boys it's done to have much choice

I can't imagine any Muslim man not following the words of the Prophet. :)

Firstly, no scholar has stated that circumcision is a prerequisite to converting to Islam -- one can definitely become Muslim even if one is not circumcised. As to the question of whether one should get a circumcision after conversion: there is division on this question but most of the scholarly opinions seems to be that it is not required but may be praiseworthy.

I suppose it would be difficult to enforce, I doubt they give papers out at doctors etc. to say you have been circumcised :ni: so how could you prove it  Maybe they could appoint a new job opportunity for someone: "cock analyser" to check all new converts

As Jews and most Copts are also circumcised, whipping out the relevant appendage wouldn't say much about your religious affiliation in Egypt!
