We already have a tin of Quality Street and Roses, they cost us nothing, we used some of our loyalty points from the Supermarket They were roughly the same price as UK unlike the double prices charged in Luxor. We also have 2 large boxes of Lindt, and a large carton of F. Roche. We just get them a bit at a time. Incidently we brought with us our 7 ft Christmas Tree that we had in Luxor. It used to stand fully trimmed and lit up near our entrance. Used to cause a stir, but like I would say its a similar celebration to Ramadan Lanterns outside your home.
Dont forget this will be our first Christmas for 9 years, so we intend to celebrate like other Christians. I do like the idea that shops and pubs will be closed Christmas Day.

Alas, I must state the obvious! Christmas has been celebrated in many places around the world for centurys, including Luxor where you actually got two oppotunities each year to do so. In fact I have celebrated Christmas in Luxor a number of times over the yesrs. How you appear to have missed out on Christmas for 9 years baffles me.

I went to 2 Christmas Celebations while in Luxor, one we stayed an hour before finally giving up on it. The other was ok but again I suppose you cannot find non Christians that have much idea. But have to applaud them for an effort. Dont know what Easter has to do with Christmas I never mentioned it. Yes for the one who enquired you can get chocolate eggs at easter. Bombay I forgot that Christmas, yes I would put that down being the best one, even though with taxi to and from Luxor from where we lived it worked out a bit expensive. I suppose each to their own. The fact Luxor has a Christian community (Which I know of) seems to begger the belief of why they seem to keep their heads low at Christian Celebrations. You would have thought they would clebrate more, mind you they may have been given a flea in their ears by the fact Christmas lights and decorations have been banished from the streets of Luxor. When a tourist we used to love walking the cornishe and past the hotels when the light were on and lit up at night. Now Luxor at Christmas is as drab as it is all year long, and very uninviting for tourists of any religion. I think last year one shop had a teimming up left over from the year previous, and there was a notice up wishing everyone a happy christmas and new year. The board was not much bigger than a Persil box and if I had not been wearing my glasses I would have walked right past it. It was nice t go into KZ to listen to Wham's Last Christmas playing on repeat. The last time I heard it was last Christmas never even believing that may be our last Christmas in Luxor, never believing our prayers would get answered, never believing we would be able to get a life again, but most of all never thinking we would ge able to smile and laugh again, and look on Luxor from the outsideinstead of being a part of the dreadful Luxor Syndrone.

I earlier ignored a part of the post. I can ignore it no longer. What do you actually mean by that?

My idea of ideal Christmas celebrations is getting up early to cries from my children of "Mum he's been, he's been." watching their faces as they open their pressies.
Playing with all the various presents whilst they show me how they work. Making breakfast and then clearing away all the wrapping paper. Then getting on with the last minute preparation before my friends and family turned up for Christmas dinner. They thankfully always insisted on doing the washing up, off then regardless of the weather for a nice long walk with the kids often with them on their new bikes or go carts or what ever form of transport they had that year.
Back home anyone hungry? Usually someone was so a sandwich and then farewell. Time for me and the kids to discuss the day decide which book they wanted reading and so to bed. Which I was often more than happy to go to at the same time as them. Shattered but happy. Not a lot of Christianity involved I'm afraid but can be enjoyed by anyone of any faith.

One of the first Xmas bashes I and her attended here was at the Gaddis, there were more Muslims there than Christians by the looks of things, and before anyone says it, doubtful the majority were the wives of said group. My Xmas will be re-watching all seven seasons of Game Of Thrones, unless a better offer comes about, like leave in seven.
