Authorities suspend ‘Go Bus’ license following death of 6 in accident
General Roads and Bridges Authority Adel Turk said on Monday that the license for bus company ‘Go Bus’ has been suspended, after one of their buses hit a truck, killing six passengers and injuring 20 others. The accident occurred near the town of al-Alamein, on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast.
Turk said in televised statement on the Dream.came channel that the suspension was a measure taken by the authority in order to allow time for investigation of the safety standards followed at the company.
He added that his authority is assigned to release and revoke licenses to all transportation companies, both private and public.

Re: Go Bus License Suspended
Carrie, you may need to check it out. When I read it I did wonder if it was a blanket suspension or if they may have route licences and the suspension may be more specific than overall.
It's good that someone is taking action against dangerous driving, but suspending the licence of this one bus company does seem to be a bit like putting a sticking plaster over a major haemorrhage.

Re: Go Bus License Suspended
Same old story.
The problem (well - the main problem causing the many horrific accidents) is that they work drivers to the bone. Several long journeys without adequate rest...so the driver falls asleep. Having a co-driver would be sensible...but isn't standard practice.
Maintenance of the buses isn't always as it should be either and drivers frequently exceed the speed limits.
The authorities are reviewing the company's practices so you'd think it would be a countrywide suspension.

Re: Go Bus License Suspended
I have travelled on Go Bus a number of times, both to Hurghada and from Cairo to Luxor. Always found the drivers to be very good and never had any qualms about travelling on them. It might not have been the Go Bus drivers fault lorry drivers seem to be maniacs on the road.

Re: Go Bus License Suspended
I've no idea what the safety record of Go Bus is like.
I do know that there are several fatal bus accidents in Egypt every year, often put down to driver error.
I can only recall one involving a lorry....parked on the side of the road when a bus ran into it.

Wonder if these public and HGV operators have to have these TACHO's in their cabs. Maybe this would be an asset ad stop accidents.
