Re: RIP Andrew Sachs
A very good actor, even though his part in Faulty Towers didn't exactly over tax his acting abilities, it was, and still is in my opinion, one of the funniest TV shows ever produced. Unfortunately in house fighting between Cleese and his wife Connie put paid to a second outing.

Re: RIP Andrew Sachs
There were 2 series (each of 6 episodes) co-written by Cleese & Connie and although they split during the second series they remained on good terms. Connie actually said they got on better after splitting.
They even discussed further episodes and possible films...but nothing ever came of it.

Re: RIP Andrew Sachs
Clips of the Manuel character were sometimes used for training sessions in the Hotel and Catering department of my local collage.
Thinking of Manuel reminds me of visiting a cafe in the medina of Fez, Morocco, with Sue in 2014. The waiter could have been Manuel - the looks and behaviour were so like him. We were given a menu but everything we ordered was 'off'. He was crazy but we enjoyed ourselves, even if we did become part of the medina entertainment.

Re: RIP Andrew Sachs
He supposedly based the ‘Basil’ character on a real person running a real hotel in Torquay, I reckon I have stayed there myself.

Re: RIP Andrew Sachs
As a child we holidayed in Devon every year and some of the owners that ran the hotels we stayed at tended to create much mirth at times among the guests. But they seemed to see nothing amiss in their attitudes and rules. I miss those times.Horus wrote:He supposedly based the ‘Basil’ character on a real person running a real hotel in Torquay, I reckon I have stayed there myself.
