Ministry of Antiquities
Press Office

No change in the date of performing the digital GPR at King Tutankhamun's Tomb (KV62) as it will be on March 31st 2016.
The results will be announced as previously declared on the first of April in front of the Tomb at the Valley of the Kings – Luxor… Stated Dr. Khaled El Anany, the New Antiquities Minister.
Please attend for press coverage in front of the Golden Pharaoh's Tomb on Friday April 1st 2016. Accurate timing will be announced when fixed.

Does this mean that there will be free access to VotK for a while on 1st April?

Let's hope they make it professional and require a press pass.

I would not anticipate free entry to the tombs in VotK, only into the valley itself. I would even expect to pay for "le petit tren".

The previous announcement was made in the gardens of Carter House. I believe there was free access to that.

I seem too remember that early last year one or even both of the temples were giving free entry for a special occasion on that particular day, but people that went found out that they still had to pay to get in. Don't hold your breath.

Once a year they advertise a "free-entry" day, but it is only for Egyptians. But on other occasions, such as the Winter Solstice at Karnak, they give free entry to all-comers for a limited time. And if one is at the right place at the right time for an opening ceremony one can sometimes get free entry including photography. A friend got into Nefertari that way in February last year. That was on the day that they officially opened the side-chapel on the top storey of Hatshepsut's temple and the 3 tombs near the ticket-office.

So I am not being unreasonable that I might be allowed to walk the valley on 1st April, with a camera. These things happen. :)

If you're going to maintain your position as chief pedant and head of grammar police you're going to have to be more careful with your syntax. :cg

Looks like El Anany is backtracking.

I suppose he wouldn't want his arrival in the post to be celebrated with a fiasco.

Sky News seems to have sent down to Luxor a reporter and a full camera crew in anticipation that today would be the BIG announcement day,........me thinks, the B.B.C. and the rest of the media circus have twigged what day this is.

That is correct, you should not believe this.

The new Minister of Antiquities made it quite clear that because he is new in his position, he wanted to carefully study the facts that have come about so far, and that the full results will be announced by the end of the month.

Until then unfortunately the press will have a field day with such ridiculous statements as above.

Hardly :urm:

The date of the ES post and the reference to the French egyptologist "April Sap" is rather transparent.

Of course, having been lured to VoK under false pretences, they might take revenge in other ways.
