It's not just about cash.

If you remember all those passionate, attractive, articulate, revolutionary young people who appeared
speaking English in front of the TV cameras 4 years ago in Tahrir Square, virtually all of them
would have been educated in one of the schools mentioned in this article, or in the many other
international schools or the genuinely private Egyptian schools with a relatively liberal education
leading to US or European certificates. Only a small proportion of the students in eg the
American or British schools in Cairo are foreign nationals - a bit like the 'German' school here in Luxor.

Unfortunately, so many of them will have chosen to move abroad for their studies and work. But,
I suppose, who can blame them?
