This practice on a par with FGM?

This practice on a par with FGM?

Post by jewel »

I hadn't heard of this before but I believe it occurs all over Africa and the Middle East. It seems yet another abuse of women, on a par with FGM. :(

I've never heard of that before either and it sounds awful.

I've been thinking about this since I read it. Without wishing to lessen the awfulness of it, I'm not so sure it is on a par with Female Genital Mutilation - although it still ranks high on female abuse in my book. The difference being that the girls have absolutely no choice or control over their bodies when it comes to FGM. However, the women who are pandering, so dangerously, to this sexual desire of men do have some choice over the matter - albeit a very little one.

Neither practice are good and we as women, who have never had to endure these things, need to get behind the organisations that are working hard to stop them through education for both the men and the women.

This story is at the most 5 days old, and seems to have originated from the Daily Mail.

This is a very old practice in many African and West Indian communities. Amazed you haven't heard about before. It was detailed in an anthropological study I read in the late 1980's, sorry but can't remember title or author.

It's a shame this practice doesn't cause penile gangrene
Indonesia has this "miracle" product for drying everything out :?

Eewwww. The funny part is when they worry about it affecting condoms. Like if you believe in this hoodoo you bother with the proper use of condoms...?
I can't believe it's the women who do this to themselves, then presumably pass the idea on to the next generation of girls.

As to shrinking up and drying out the hoo haa - I'd think this practice might be used on the night of first nuptuals to convince the guy that he has bought the golden virginal goose. Can't hardly see the old lady scrubbing herself out with lye, bleach or whatever on a daily basis only to have the old man shove his glory stick up there to have it burned off ....... I mean really ......... what is good for the goose also affects the gander and I'd think one good BURN would have the old man fast footing for something wet and smooth..........

Not saying it hasn't and doesn't happen just saying - 'think about ALL the implications of this' ....... really :be: :be: :be:

I watched a documentary on this subject couple of years back. They also highlighted the practice of sewing up the bottom part of the vagina to make it tighter. One African man interviewed stated that it reduced the need for some men to find sex with very young girls and also made sex much better between husband and wife especially if many children had been born to that woman. I suppose it could be where the saying came from of 'making a silk purse out of a sows ear.' The women in the documentary did both of these voluntarily to please their husbands, but it also highlighted the internal damage that was done to some of the women that was so bad it prevented them from having sex for the rest of their lives.

Personally speaking jewel, I would not like a vagina, far too much maintenance, although I have been referenced in the past in regards of producing actions of one. :P And you can never be 100% certain that nothing concerning anything never happens in your own back yard.
