Arabtec hopes to begin construction of 1mn homes in Egypt...

Post by DJKeefy »

Arabtec hopes to begin construction of one million homes in Egypt this year.

Dubai's largest listed construction firm, Arabtec, hopes to begin the construction of one million housing units in Egypt before the end of the year.

Arabtec has conducted "intensive negotiations and meetings" during the past period with Egyptian officials for the project to begin before the end of 2014, the company said in a press release to the Dubai Financial Market on Wednesday.

"The company is making the maximum possible effort, in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and New Urban Communities Authority in Egypt, to begin the construction of phase one of the project before the end of the current year."

In March, Arabtec agreed with the Egyptian army to build one million houses in a project worth LE280 billion ($40 billion).

The project is planned to cover 160 million square meters on land provided free by the armed forces across 13 sites in Egypt for lower income individuals.

Work on the project was originally scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2014 and to be completed before 2020, but delivery of units will start in 2017.

"Imagine if that was to be the headline in tomorrows Sun but reading England rather than Egypt, 'imagine a whole new city somewhere in Englands' green & pleasant land. Salisbury Plain perhaps with Stonehenge as the centre surround by Tesco's Lidl's, Sainsbury's and Iceland….

1 million homes costing 280 billion EGP. So....average....280,000EGP per home.

That's affordable to "lower income individuals"? :o

Or have I got a nought wrong somewhere?

Presumably before the days of concrete: :tk

Some say the old days were better, but then my mate BP fell in the Thames in 1955, and spent a few days in Hospital recovering, because the river was so polluted back then..

Does Egypt need 1million new homes when, today, in my small street I counted 20 empty apartments! So if there are 20 vacant in my street how many empty ones are there in Luxor?

Double Suicide ?

He was working on the Dartford Tunnel where he fell in, he lived in East Ham.

Up until the sewage business was sorted out in the 1800s, cholera killed thousands, the river was still filthy with industrial waste etc.
Nothing much lived in the river starting from Chelsea down to Graves End in Essex.[ Any one having a day out in Southend in the 50s will know what i'm saying]

When the docks closed down years later and all the area was redeveloped, life began to return to the Thames, ...even migratory fish have been observed these days.

I guess humans are making progress...

Anyhow, he too is visiting London from Miri where he now lives. He was telling me this ..

Tower of London in the news with all those poppies in the moat. Between 1949-51 i used to go there regular with the army cadets to practice our shooting skills.
We were supervised by the guards regiment who were stationed there at the time. The firing ranges were inside buildings and were used in the early part of the 1900s to execute, [by shooting] a number of traitors etc.
I visited the Tower a couple of years ago for the first time since the 50s and asked some wardens about the ranges.
They said they had no knowledge concerning them,... i think some events do not go down well with tourists....
I must say the Tower in the 50s used to be deserted most days, with most folk having more on their minds, [there were a lot more Ravens on the tower lawns than tourists then too]... The river Thames and docks were flat out with boats and tugs busy day and night, you knew you were near the river just by the smell, [ you can almost drink out of it now] The place and surrounding areas were almost unrecognizable to me,...just shows what a good makeover, tourists and the dough they spend can do.

There must be a million empty apartments in Hurghada too, which would cost a lot less to buy if newcastles figures are correct

Remember this from the 1960s? And the population was only 3 billion then as opposed to a rapidly increasing 7.5 billion now.

Do you really believe this is his last trip ever to Egypt?

A4 I am sure is aware at least two expats were kicked out on ARRIVAL this year. So whether he says his stuff here or on UK soil, it's all the same.

I think it is all for dramatic effect more than some sort of critical commentary. Or maybe he is just too busy and is marking the posts he wants to come back to later.
