Look at the date of the article. It is 2006. The current child law was issued in 2008. DNA is irrelevant. And in this case that is not the issue, even if he is biologically the father, he is not the father legally.

I agree that as neither "parent" is Egyptian, and the family are only staying in Egypt as guests (as I understand it) then the whole fuss is nothing to do with the Egyptians.

What I was wondering (as an aside and off topic) was whether the current child law provides for a child to establish their legal parentage notwithstanding that the mother & (Egyptian) father might not be married...and the father disclaims parentage.

I think this is the current article in the 2008 Law :
Article 4(4
Article 7-bis
(
)
The child shall have the right to kinship with his legitimate parents and to be cared by them.
The child shall have the right to establish his legitimate paternal and maternal lineage, using
all lawful scientific means in order to establish such lineage.
Parents shall provide the child with necessary care and protection. The State shall provide the
child deprived of family care with alternative care. Adoption is prohibited.

Rather depends how you read the word "legitimate". I thought the whole point of the amendment to the laws was to give abandoned children the possibility of establishing parentage, and therefore a birth certificate, irrespective of whether the parents were legally married.

Or does Egypt condemn such children to a lifetime as "non-persons" because their mother/father broke the rules?

Perhaps there's a definition of "legitimacy" buried somewhere in the legislation and children born out of wedlock are, indeed, damned for eternity.

If he can prove parentage, ask for a discretionary decision, if not hit them with the Human Rights Act.
It is what it is.

My sister and her husband were living in America for 4 years...2 of their children were born in America and they returned to Ireland when the eldest girl was 2 years and the second one 4 months. Neither my sister or her husband had US passports or even citizenship.. My 2 nieces now have American passports based on them having been born in America (they also have Irish Passports)

The oldest girl is now 23 and has just landed a job with AIB Bank branch in New York and absolutely loves living in New York.

Maybe GD knows if this proposed law was enacted? I suspect it wasn't.
Interesting link. :up Unfortunately, once again a head in the right direction is blemished by way of ''if the woman's claim is found to be incorrect'' she faces a fine and/or prison. Does that indicate that they see her as a prostitute or of easy virtue if the result goes against her so deserves imprisonment? Once again the women suffer at the hands of man. He can impregnate with his willy on a willy nilly basis, but women watch out, pleasure is one sided here.
