Trains to Upper Egypt have been temporarily halted after gas cylinders were found on the track near Ayat station in Giza, announced the National Railways Authority.
According to state news agency MENA, services will resume once the security forces are sure that the area is safe. It is not clear why the gas cylinders were left on the railway.
The past few days have witnessed attempts by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi to block train movements in protests to commemorate the anniversary of the bloody dispersal of Muslim Brotherhood-led sit-ins in Cairo and Giza that left hundreds dead.
On Thursday, in Minya, Upper Egypt, a number of protesters placed burning tires on the track at Bani Mazar, blocking trains for a couple of hours.
