Hotels - Downtown - Cairo

Post by Zooropa »

Hello, im pricing up my possible October trip to Egypt and have found my usual hotel - Hilton Ramses is too expensive this time of year so im looking for an alternative in the downtown area that is walking distance from the museum.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Ps -Although I am tempted by the Mercure Le Sphinx Hotel - I prefer the downtown area but £30 b&b a night with a pyramid view is outstanding value in my opinion.

Stayed there Zooropa it was great don't know if your interested but has a fantastic pool and taxi's from there to down town only cost me 15le. A cheaper alternative is the Capsis Palace about 5 mins walk from the train station, basic but clean and I used to walk from there to the Museum although it was a good walk. Metro not far away though.

Sorry Carrie - not sure I fully understand where you are referring to - stayed at the Ramses or Mercure?

Assume you mean Ramses as 15LE from Mercure seems very cheap to me uneless it was a while ago?

Confused :?

I always was been on budget so i can suggest only cheap accomodations.
I did like Garden City House - 6-8 min. walk distance from Cairo Museum. I forgot their rates, i visited Cairo last 6-7 years ago for last time.
Richmond Hotel and Sarah Inn were also good solutions (also no more as 10 min. distance from Tahrir but 'deeper in the jungle.
Garden City is on better level, they also had excellent kitchen...
