Well checked the site out have to say not too impressed with the video but hopefully the exhibition will encourage visitors to Luxor to see the "real" thing.

I hope they, unlike many other "experts" from both inside Egypt and out do not refer to his tomb as being discovered "intact".HEPZIBAH wrote:The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, UK have an exhibition coming up - Discovering Tutankhamoun

I want to scream every time someone says it.
It was not discovered intact!

Well Zooropa the first quote on the site, top of the page is that Carter said he had made a wonderful discovery a tomb with seals intact.

Yes he did and that is in fact correct, the seals were intact but he subsequently made it very clear that the tomb itself was not intact which is very different.carrie wrote:Well Zooropa the first quote on the site, top of the page is that Carter said he had made a wonderful discovery a tomb with seals intact.
Re: Ashmolean Museum - Discovering Tutankhamoun
The jumble in the ante room must have made it obvious immediately that the tomb had been robbed. Didn't Carter estimate that at least 60% of the jewellery was missing?Zooropa wrote:Yes he did and that is in fact correct, the seals were intact but he subsequently made it very clear that the tomb itself was not intact which is very different.carrie wrote:Well Zooropa the first quote on the site, top of the page is that Carter said he had made a wonderful discovery a tomb with seals intact.

I would love to enter into this debate, though I think most established members on this site would acknowledge how I regard a certain Mr. Howard Carter, and his life in Egypt..

Iirc, I think I read somewhere that there was some sort of statement left in the tomb from the guardians stating that some sort of restoration had taken place.
But I may be mistaken.
