New exhibition of Egyptian antiquities proposed for Sharm El-Sheikh.
Amidst celebrations on Thursday to mark the final removal in 1982 of Israeli forces from the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt's antiquities minister and the governor of Sharm El-Sheikh met in the Red Sea resort town to discuss a temporary exhibition of ancient artefacts.
The exhibition aims to provide another tourist attraction in Sharm El-Sheikh and drum up tourism in Sinai.
Antiquities Minister Mohamed Ibrahim told Ahram Online that the exhibition, entitled Egypt the Great, will display a collection of artefacts from pre-historic times up to the period of Mohamed Ali, an Ottaman-era army commander considered to be the founder of modern Egypt in the early 19th century.
Ibrahim added that the objects on display will be carefully selected from different museums across Egypt, as well as from archaeological sites in Al-Qantara Sharq and Sinai.
