Mega computer problem

Post by Dusak »

The new Toshiba that I had brought over last year has developed a problem that I have failed to fix so any help or advise would be welcome. Last night as I had just switched it on we had a power cut so I switched it off manually [all with in ten seconds] This afternoon I turned it on and a message from the system told me that the computer had failed to start so it initiated the self repair program. It went through the motions, restarted. Now the problem I have is that when I got this computer it had a password option that for some unknown stupid reason I applied. This has given me no problems in the past, but now, after this start up repair it keeps coming up that the computer failed to load the password program so try again. I have done this several times but it fails to open. I can not get into the system to reset the password as it tells me that I have to insert the re-set password disk which I didn't get. Mater of fact I didn't get anything when it arrived as everything was pre-loaded. I have pressed the F12 for re-boot and F2 for the other option which I have forgotten what it was. Nothing except a loud alarm go's off. I can't get past the enter your password screen. So any suggestions before I take a hammer to it tomorrow. In anticipation of any help, thanks.

Don't know if this is any use Dusak but I had problems with my Comp last week following a power cut took it to Office on Mediana Street, they really seem to know what they are doing there, I have no idea if they will be able to help with this problem but worth a try.

I had a similar situation yesterday (may be a problem windows update?) I restarted, hit the key (F5, F7, F10, DEL, depends on the machine) and managed to return to an earlier saved system. F2 probably brings the hardware setup options. When this disappears from the screen you need to hit the other keys mentioned above to get the System Restore option.

No keefy, I was very surprised but I did say that I did not want windows re-installed. Last time that happened they removed all my photos etc so I was adamant that they didn't re-install.

I woke up at 3am this morning with a bug in my ear, that bug was I was being defeated by a machine. Large mug of tea and a new pack of cigs I started to play around with it. I was on my fourth mug when I was just a little too quick on what must of been the twentieth power up and hit the F2 as it was just coming on. The screen lit up with all kinds of options so I chose open in safe mode. It took a while but eventually I was successful in fully restoring the system. The first thing I did was remove the start up password feature. This took nearly two hours to achieve. As stated CE the thing came over without any of the discs supplied as they forgot to pack them. So thank you for the suggestions, you really have to hit that F2 option with the speed of light as soon as you switch on.

Seems your sorted but my suggestion would be for you to email Toshiba to their online help/support, explain the situation and ask is there a back door universal password that might allow you to get into the system so that you can make you own recovery disk for future.

:up

Once you are in the system you can easily create a password recovery disc but never bothered. I've deleted the start up password now, still don't know why I created one in the first place. :? Just goes to prove that with a little perseverance and the thought that its only a machine at the end of the day, most problems can be overcome and its a good self teach operation. :up
