No the formulas of the chemicals were the same. They were removed from the retail market in the early 80's.

To repeat myself. There is no proof that the defoliants cause birth defects. There is some evidence that the defoliants (really just a weed killer) when exposed to heat (or maybe some other processes) in their storage may lead to birth defects.

I am not aware of any successful legal action against Monsanto or the US government on this matter.

In any event equating known killer gases used on humans with the intention to kill civilians (Syria) with a defoliant not known at the time to have effects on humans and used with the purpose of exposing jungle hideouts shows either poor logic or bias.

So, before any of these agents were used, birth defects were hardly seen. Then after 100,000's of gallons of the stuff was dumped on the population, couple of years later unseen before birth defects started to appear in vast numbers you say that there is no possible connection? According to what I read on the internet, the potency of these chemicals had been enhanced by additional chemicals. But then it could be just another conspiracy theory I suppose. And just another fine example of the Yanks interfering in another country cos they can. I often wonder if someone dedicated a wall of remembrance concerning all the innocent victims of Americas continued interference in other countries business over the last sixty years, would it be longer than the Great Wall of China? I suppose it would have to be as they will never stop.

No I'm not saying there is no connection. What I am saying that there is a world of moral difference between the deliberate use of known killer gases on civilians and, on the other hand, the use of chemicals not known at the time to pose a major risk to humans with the purpose of killing plants.

This post started with Assad. It got sidetracked onto the US 40 years ago. Someone tried to draw moral equivalence between the two. Others used the sins of one to limit criticisms of the other. Assad, his dead father and still living and blood thirsty mother (who is reported to think that her son is a bit of a wimp) are monsters with dangerous weapons determined to maintain their dictatorship and the rivers of money which have flowed to them and their followers.

Maybe this helps to clarify. If you kill your neighbor by shooting with a known loaded gun through his front window that is very different to killing your neighbor with a gun you believed to be unloaded with a shot aimed into the air.

A lighter moment. About 18 months ago hackers got into the email accounts of Assad and his middle class Syrio-English wife. These emails dated from that period, that is to say a year into a serious civil war. Some gems included: Rupert was believed by Assad to be "hidden" or "secret" Jew and he would task the Syrian secret service to establish this: Mrs Assad was doing extensive on-line shopping for luxury goods using a London agent and delivery to a gulf state to get around the sanctions. You would be surprised at the amount of time she spent on shopping emails and her insistence that her agent get exactly what she wanted and what shops to go to. Major purchases included 1 (or maybe more) crystal encrusted high heel shoes. The unit cost per pair was c3,500 stg. Bed side and occasional tables were a minor obsession as she goaded her agent on. Her knowledge of specialist stores on and around the Kings Road was encyclopedic.

These people are self obsessed and selfish and lack any moral compass and basic rationality. Its one of the symptoms of dictatorship that they live in a bubble and outside normal rationality.

I think that only a dead man would be blind to the fact that most of the worlds leaders are a parasitic breed feeding off the wealth of their country and it people. As for the chemicals used, I think all would say that something that can destroy vegetation including massive trees would have a harmful effect on a human. Just buy any controlled strengths of household and garden pest and weed killers, the labels are littered with warnings concerning contact with skin. Magnify that a hundred times...
