The Pope resigns

Post by carrie »

Well Pope Benedict 16 has left office this evening and now we await the election of a new Holy Father. Does anyone think that it wil make a difference, will the new Pope look more kindly on the consecration of women priests, will he allow priests to marry? Only one thing is certain it will be another MAN.

I was watching it on the early evening news and I thought how frail he looks. :( it reminded me of his election in April, 2005, which I saw on TV in a hotel room in Egypt. I hope the next Pope is a bit younger and more up to the rigours of the job.

This Pope had a hard act to follow after Pope John Paul. Going to be interesting who is elected. Whomever it is they will have lots of issues to deal with.

God willing they will actually deal with them. Pardon my cynicism, but I'm not holding my breath. A female? Not in our lifetime, when they won't even allow them to be priests. :x

Wouldn't anyone quit their job if their boss never ever turned up to see how they're doing?

Am not Catholic or particularly religious but what is the reason Priests can't marry? And what is the party line as to why women can't be priests?

The strange thing is that the early church did have women priests (deacons) and it was only when Paulinism replaced Christianity that women were debarred.
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
