Ex-PM Shafiq, three daughters to stand trial on corruption charges
Court releases frozen assets of Egypt ex-military minister Shafiq
The prosecutor-general’s official spokesperson Mostafa Dowidar stated on Tuesday’s evening that Talaat Abdullah, the prosecutor-general, has ordered his office to prepare a memo for Interpol, in order to arrest Ahmed Shafiq, former presidential candidate and former prime minister under Hosni Mubarak.
Dowidar added that this step follows the order of Osama El-Saidi, the prosecutor in charge of an embezzlement case against Shafiq known as the 'pilots' housing' case to refer Shafiq, his three daughters and another ten accomplices for trial for embezzling public funds.
Ahmed Shafiq and his daughters are accused of seizing land that belonged to fish farms and illegally allocating it to the Pilots' Association for Land Development, which he headed.
In June 2012, following his defeat in the presidential elections by Mohamed Morsi, Shafiq and his family left Egypt for Abu Dhabi.

Re: Egyptian prosecution to ask Interpol for arrest of ex-PM
Abu Dhabi is hosting a few nasties at the moment.
Assad's sister and his elderly, but blood thirsty, mother are also enjoying its hospitality. Apparently Its airport is large enough to handle the 'fully laden' planes of escapees.
Don't expect an early extradition - Abu Dhabi courts refused the return to Italy of a fraudster because the Italian courts were corrupt. if things get hot for for Shafiq and family he can move to Saudi and join the crook and former President of Tunisia whom Saudi won't extradite. It's irrelevant but his plane could barely take off because of the loot.
It's probably significant that Egypt haven't started with a direct appeal to Abu Dhabi so don't expect him back soon to face the creaking Egyptian courts, endless appeals and delays because he's dying.
Why is it that in Egypt public officials issue a press release at the drop of a hat and, in this case, before any any serious work has been done.("ordered his office to prepare a memo for Interpol"). Here, and in lots of other situations, they raise expectations and make them selves look stupid if the action fails.
Summary justice, Libyan style, has drawbacks but at least it's swift.
