Black Bloc anarchists emerge in Egypt.
The Black Bloc, a new Egyptian anarchist group, made its first appearance last week, on the eve of the second anniversary of the 25 January 2011 revolution. With a declared aim of fighting the Muslim Brotherhood, it has drawn a lot of mainstream criticism.
The group appears to be drawing inspiration from European Black Bloc protesters, using the same tactics first seen in Germany in the 1970s and more recently at anti-globalization protests.
Internationally, Black Bloc members dress all in black, concealing their faces and often resort to violence.
The size of Black Bloc in Egypt is not clear, but the group appears to have forged links with other Egyptian revolutionary groups, including the "Ultras", who are hardcore fans of Cairo's al-Ahly football club.
Members of the group appeared in Tahrir Square on 25 January, banging drums and saying they would "continue the revolution" and "defend protesters". Others were reported by the al-Ahram news website to be blocking tram tracks in the northern city of Alexandria.
'Bringing down tyrants'
Facebook pages have been set up, attracting thousands of subscribers. They feature violent rhetoric against the Muslim Brotherhood and instructional videos on street fighting.
The Black Bloc describes itself as a group that is "striving to liberate people, end corruption and bring down tyrants".
"We had to appear officially to fight against the regime of the fascist tyrants, the Muslim Brotherhood, and their military wing," the group said in an online video.
Filmed at night, the short video shows men wearing black clothes and black masks. Some hold the Egyptian flag while others carry black flags with an "A" sign - an international symbol of anarchism.
In a statement published on its Facebook page on 25 January, the group claimed responsibility for an arson attack on the office of the Muslim Brotherhood's official website and a famous restaurant in Cairo believed to be owned by a Muslim Brotherhood figure.
"We declare our revolution today in Tahrir Square until Egypt and its people get their rights back," it added. "We are not thugs or saboteurs, but rather we defend Egypt against the criminality of the Muslim Brotherhood."
One of the Black Bloc's founders, Sharif al-Sirfi, has said the group has adopted the slogan, "Vengeance or Revolution".
On 27 January, he told the al-Watan newspaper: "We seek to get the rights of martyrs, and this can not be achieved except through fair revenge, which is the execution of those who are found guilty of killing the martyrs."
Another member of the group, speaking to the al-Yawm al-Sabi news website on condition of anonymity, said its members included Ultras, activists from the leftist 6 April Youth Movement, and unaffiliated young people.
Wave of criticism
The Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated TV channel, Misr 25, reported on 26 January that the Black Bloc was "part of the alleged revolutionary movements, such as anarchism and the [Egyptian Trotskyist] Revolutionary Socialists".
"These movements reject the existence of a political, judicial or parliamentary system at all. They call for societies without the state. In order to achieve this, they adopt all forms of violent and barbaric acts, such as killing and burning," the report said.
"These anarchic sabotage groups are not revolutionary groups. Rather, they use the revolution as a cover to cause chaos."
The methods the group uses have sparked a wave of criticism in the mainstream media. Some commentators describe it as a "terrorist group".
"It is a group of young extremists who adopt anarchic ideas, copying the Western terrorist movements calling themselves the Black Bloc," Hani Salah-al-Din wrote in al-Yawm al-Sabi.
State-run Nile News TV has reported that the group attacked President Muhammad Morsi's house in his hometown of Zagazig in al-Sharqiyah governorate on 25 January.
It also said a number of group members were arrested during clashes with security forces near Tahrir Square on the first day of their demonstrations.

Re: Black Bloc anarchists emerge in Egypt.
How do the masses WIN in this world. ?
Listen to the Lies of Authority and Religion and keep believing the lies ? do as you are told ?
Resist the opressors with more Violence, which is stupid, as you cant beat the system that way.
Stay in Bed, and bring the system down with non compliance, then starve or sucumb to the law of the jungle.
Choice ? What Choice ?
Short of the Mothership turning up and broadcasting the truth across the skie's to the masses so they can learn and understand,
then this whole world may as well be nuked and ALL human life removed.
It was a big mistake. They should have learned our lesson from 5000 years ago...... ! ! !
Second chances...

Posts that contain just a URL (Link) without a brief explanation of what the link contains will be deleted.
So instead of deleting it I edited your post to contain the full contents of the link and included your original link as the source, maybe next time you will add a few paragraphs of the link to prevent this for happening again.

He wont take that well...
Last time he went to jail, he went all quiet and withdrawn, refused to eat and then started smearing his Feces all over the walls.
I told him there and then.. "That's the last time I play Monopoly with you" . .
See you in three days . .
Who reads the rules anyway ? Like Instruction Manual's, or "Manufacturer's Opinion" as I call them...

I agree on the rules, not everyone reads them, but if they get inforced due to someone breaking them, dont complain.

Also not-so-clever, as they leave a trail of evidence or suspicion.....
You dont suppose his companion "Stella" had anything to do with the threats do you Keefy.. ?

Re: Black Bloc anarchists emerge in Egypt.
Thank you Who2.
None of the reports seem clear on who Black Bloc are. If they are Trots. you have to doubt their sanity.
Never heard of 70's European Black Bloc but know of the 70's and 80's Trot. Red Brigade and Bader so I've got my doubts about the report. These European groups were only very very small and worked in secret like all professional terrorist organizations - unlike the exhibitionist Black Bloc.
Suspect that there are much more dangerous types, in large numbers, swilling around in the region.
Has anyone wondered where all the former supporters of Gaddafi together with his soldiers for hire have ended up? Some of them have been attracted by the chaos in Mali together with Al Qaeda and the like. These groups feed off chaos and the opportunities it gives them (also Iraq and Syria). The chaos in Egypt must be attractive to them.
Lets hope that these Black Bloc types are like the poorly organized but violent Ultras (as they seem to be and no one has suggested that they are fundamentalists) and that Al Qaeda or the remnants of Gaddafi are not attracted to Egypt. The Egyptian tradition and recent Pew polling indicates that the Egyptians are amongst the most pacific people in the world so Ultras and worse will probably get no more than limited support and, in the case of Black Bloc, might alienate many whilst creating chaos.

I would Never argue with that sentiment. . Infact, it is my dream to see this happen one day..

When you all start thinking for yourselves, try turning OFF the TV, Nay, throw the TV out of the Window. Stop reading Newspapers and stop giving all the shite in this world your attention.
Accept and move on. We can work together, infact we will have to work together very soon....
Humans cannot have power over others, POWER CORRUPTS Very Quickly..

Re: Black Bloc anarchists emerge in Egypt.
Just say to yourself.. " I AM"
repeat as often as necessary...
We exist, but it is ALL subjective, as we experience ourself again and again and again from infinite different viewpoints..
THAT is why when we all finally realise that, we will have no choice but to help each other and do no harm to each other..
We certainly won't be killing and lying and judging, we become our own judge at the end of the play,
For many in this New Age ( Aquarius) , the game is over this time around.
Moving on up...

1 - you dont finance this forum I do.
2 - My actions for editing your post were clearly listed in Luxor4u rules, it not the first time you have broken this rule so you know of the rule.
3 - I will not accept threats of violence from anyone, so a banning was in order.
No one denies that you are a good poster and a long time member yet this does give you a right to be above other members and it certainly does not give you any right to threaten anyone.
It's entirely up to you if you want to continue posting or not, I have put it behind me, maybe you should too.
On a final note, it's good to see that in your last post you have finally learned how to upload full sized photos and not postage stamps, I can sleep in peace now

Re: Black Bloc anarchists emerge in Egypt.
I have to admit I'm a bit confused about this entire thread and more how it got SO escalated.......and for my own self I'm recapping that Who2 posted something? a URL?
This got edited? or changed or ? by Keefy?? and this could some how cause personal ramifications t Who2? And I get that Egypt is, really IS in a state of unrest.............
Sooooooo - I know the rule about just posting a blank URL with no explanation but IF (for future) a blank URL is posted wouldn't it be better to just delete the entire entry? Am only saying this if something was previously edited that could cause some level of personal liability to the poster???
Soooooooo (again) - If during this time of unrest in Egypt there is any sense that a post could cause ramifications to the poster OR the site Administrator or any of the Expats living in Egypt shouldn't this be (to use a not too pleasant word) CENSORED? And not censored in a long on-going way but just until everything settles back to normal/typical/daytoday blah blah blah.....
We hold a value re: freedom of the press or freedom of cyberworld but, and I do believe Who2 makes a valid point - nobody needs the proverbial 'knock on the door' in the middle of the night - NOT RIGHT NOW anyway.
On another note - Who2 had his own style and WAS a character on here. Enjoyed reading his posts. Not that threatening is appropriate ever but ok his knuckles got rapped. During this time of upheaval people are not themselves and there IS a preoccupation with what is going on about them making for a stressful living situation.
I think this also answers ScottishTourists query in another thread re: why is nobody talking about what is going on.....
During time of stress, high anxiety people just physiologically cannot remain in that state of heightened alert or awareness all the time. Physically impossible. Posting about the present situation in Egypt with all the ramifications political unrest brings triggers the stress/anxiety response and I think people living this just can't bring it upon themselves any more than necessary. They can't 'fix it' and so are opting to leave it lie. Almost a self protection mechanism.
