These photos are from a PDF I downloaded of the EES's 1894 excavation at Deir el Bahri. Compare them with the site today and I think you'll realise why I find it well over-restored (or reconstructed)!

Re: Deir el Bahri in 1894
It was way back in that time that this place first got the title as a mortuary temple, which the Polish mission still maintain to this date, but as you say here Stan 'over restored', it could be one of many things, but one thing is for sure,.........it is no mortuary temple.

It was, of course, the EEF not the EES in 1894. All the excavation reports of Édouard Naville at Deir el-Bahari are, of course, available from http://www.yare.org/egypt.
I love these old photos.

But of course you will have to pay for the privilege of accessing them on this self promoting/advertising site or you could do a search and download them for free somewhere else!Brian Yare wrote:It was, of course, the EEF not the EES in 1894. Much as I like Brian, I have to agree with Kevin on this one -most of his publications can be downloaded for free from many websites - all it takes is a little time to find them.
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
