Because a chicken can’t be a nugget without being force fed or tortured or terrified or dismembered and fish is a suitable alternative to real meat and a dog’s life is more important than a cow’s and sharks can be finned because they frighten us and our fishing industry is destroying the oceans and a salad costs less than a steak and our physiology resembles a herbivore’s and an overdose of proteins results in an overabundance of nitrogen in the blood and there are innumerable pathogens and parasites in dead flesh and there are ethical substitutes for every type of meat that are healthier and more nutritious and the obesity rate of our country is rising every day but the FDA wouldn’t dare to tell us to eat less dairy and meat and because farmers are going bankrupt but Monsanto is becoming a monopoly and if we put our grain to better use we could feed starving families and if we farmed organically we could slash carbon emissions and if we stopped using chemical fertilizer on animal feed we could reduce our dependency on foreign oil and…for lots and lots of other reasons I am a vegetarian.
