Thanks Tony, but again, I have tried to ring them, and again the phone has been dis-connected, so I don't think i would want to give them bank details on their web site.

On the theme of moon pictures, here is an unusual one by a guy in Australia.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldne ... -Moon.html

He apparantly waited months to get it just right.

I've always found pictures like above of the moon and the planets, so humbleing and relaxing, I suppose, I first learnt this from the days of those Carl Saygon (spelling) TV programs on space and time, and how we are not really at all important.

The good man himself, recently died.

I have never seen any of those programs on video or DVD, and I shop around quite a bit when I am in London.

One of the best ever was when he was the guest speaker on the 'Christmas Lectures' several years ago, they are usually broadcast on TV in several parts over the Christmas holiday. Although it was many years ago I still remember that particular one, he was so down to earth and he put the facts over in a way that everyone could understand him and be amazed by what he said. :)

Strange how time telescopes in the mind as you get older. He actually died in 1996 after a long battle with a cancer.
I must say I loved his programmes and also enjoyed the film "Contact" which he co wrote. It was not made until after his death.
For a New Yorker he had a very smooth voice and style :)

Just to bring this topic back up again as at the moment in the UK the Autumn nights are bringing some really clear skies.

The question was asked as to what was the best way to take 'Moon' photographs and I along with others posted some examples.
I recently tried the following method to take a photograph in daylight although late in the afternoon, but the moon was very visible.

I set up my camera on a tripod and did the usual zoom and focusing to get the best shot, after I was fairly happy with the resulting test pictures, I used the 'Auto Bracketing' setting on my camera (a fairly common feature on most cameras) to take a series of 3 pictures. One was under exposed (too dark), one was over exposed (too bright) and one was normal, I then used software, in this case it was PSP Photo2 to merge the 3 pictures into 1, the result was quite acceptible and with a bit more fiddling about it should be possible to get a reasonable picture, see what you think :)

If I can go back off-topic for a moment, Carl Sagan's Cosmos programmes are available as box set of digitally restored DVDs – seven of them covering 13 episodes – but only in the American NTSC system. Amazon.com offers it at $76. Can't trace whether it's ever been out on European PAL.
