Autumn Leaves

Post by Horus »

Once again I have my little walking buddy staying with me and although it was an awful day weather-wise here in the UK, he does not seem to notice and insisted that we went out for a walk.

As it was Autumn I thought that a few pictures of the trees might be a good idea and the leaves do seem to be especially colourful this year.

Beautiful photies H. That's a lovely lake, reservoir, pond, pool whatever. Beautiful colours. Do trees change colour here? Seems to be dusty grey leaves or bare twigs most of the time.
(yup - homesick!)

Beautiful photos Horus but if truth be told I'm fed up of trampling through leaves- they are about 4 inches thick outside our front door and guess who went skidding through chuffing doggie doodle yesterday :x :x :x

On the subject of autumn leaves, and being mindful of the upcoming "bonfire" season, just a caution to inspect leaves before gathering/sweeping them up, as there may be creatures taking shelter there - hedgehogs for example, and the other day we found a small frog sheltering in a pile of leaves in the garden, so try not to be too "tidy" and help wildlife :)

They do look a bit creepy don't they? that is why I took that particular picture, of course they are just old gnarled tree trunks, but it is sometimes a bit creepy when you are walking alone through some of these old woods :)

And thanks to you all for your kind comments and as many of you have said, some of the local countryside is quite beautiful, although it appears that posting these pictures may not be everyones cup of tea. ;)

They are lovely Horus, I was admiring my Acer in the garden yesterday and thought I would love to get a picture of it, well the wind blew a hoolie around the garden for a few minutes and when I looked again it was almost bare. Nevermind, have to find some other ones instead.

Sue, saying as the leaves fell off your Acer before you took a picture, here is one in my garden.

Image

This variety has the Latin name Acer Palmatum which I suppose is a reference to the palm or hand like structure of the leaves, but I always like to think that mine is an Acer Palm-Atum, or the hand of the god Atum ;)

The growths on the trees are interesting, not sure what type of tree it is but they often get malignant growths from ray damage or viruses or fungi. I really love old oak trees they have a really good energy about them :) This is one by the lake
Image

Here are some leaves on the path to the lake- just waiting to be tramped through!! :D (just a kid at heart)

Yes you did Christine :) they are Mrs H's pride and joy she has about 6 or more. They are now twice as big as in this picture taken a couple of years ago, this area is usually quite a shaded part of the garden, but here it looks quite sunny, you can see tha Acer on the left :)

Image

Very nice pictures Jewel :) I love the old gnarled texture that you find on some trees.

Mmm the hosta's are lovely i had 3 monsters some tie ago by our little pond, but when the pond got filled in the hosta's moved house to my sisters, they are still growing i do believe, lovely look to the leaf of a healthy hosta, and yes i spied the Acer in the corner there.

@ Jewel nice photo's :) the second one speaks of solitude, the first of aging splendidly :)

Ahhh, beautiful photos Horus and Jewel.

I really, really, really miss the changing of the seasons, it's just so beautiful, and I swear I can smell the autumn smokiness just by looking at those pics!

What I'd give for some proper weather and colour!

Edited to add: is that a Westie I spy, Horus? I used to have one when I was little - spirited little creatures aren't they?!
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...

Countessa asked:

You spy correctly, :) his name is Max and he is about 10 years old, he really belongs to my son who agrees he is spirited, but he has a lovely mellow personality. He often stays with us so he gets to go out with me quite a lot, this picture was taken about 2 hours ago and you can see he likes water and mud!
