NO Morgita, so please give us a break from these posts about double standards, nastyness etc, (do you know how hard it is to run a forum and try keep a balance) we are doing are best to keep this forum as friendly as we can, looks like you missed the Moderation thread I posted about 5 days ago viewtopic.php?t=25935Morgita wrote:Go you! You have managed to tell your tale of being propositioned and NO-ONE (yet) has chipped in to tell you that it must have been your fault, for walking the sugarcane lanes or for just being there. Not a whiff of a suggestion that you must not be respectable and are leading the young men of Luxor astray by flaunting your obvious charms.
Do I detect the unmistakable whiff of a double standard?

No I didn't miss it. I don't believe that I have been nasty to anyone. I can understand if people don't want to hear or see unpalatable truths or even things that don't fit their world view. I can't resist poking at the cosiness that encourages double standards. I haven't made any personal attacks on anyone other than a bit of gentle fun. If I needed to ask apology I would. If you want me to stop posting I will.

That Z is pretty normal on the WB, it happens a lot ....I seen it myself (not in the sugar canes mind!!) but a lot from coffee shops and on roofs, there are many couples who either live or visit there and its very common the man is having these "assignations" completely unbeknown to his wife. Amazing and also rather sad, although we used to have a laugh about it, when you think of the implications......

"Pretty normal" behaviour on the West Bank? What a den of iniquity I seem to have moved into! It's a rather sweeping statement about such a large area, though I grant you propositioning a single man (or woman) who walks near the riverside is fairly common – until you become known in the area.
But it seems I must visit more coffee shops and rooftops if I want to see a stream of erring husbands striking their sexual assignation deals

Believe me TonyC, it can be a real eye-opener when you have a balcony overlooking some of the main areas for this clandestine activity...... and amazed at some of the people who "partake"
.......we used to wonder how the wifie was oblivious, of course I couldn't vouch for what goes on in the sugar cane!! but let's just say after what I've seen nothing would surprise me

When I lived closer to the Nile, I used to walk along the sugarcane fields, thinking that I was all alone in the world, until I made friends with a man who had come to spend some months. He was looking for a place to meditate in the sunset, but whenever he went out in the landscape, thinking he was alone, men would come running out of the sugar cane fields, shouting that Mecca was the other direction, and this was blasphemy. They would then try to make him convert, pointing their right index finger at him, while they had their left hand working in the pocket of the ghallabiya, and after a few minutes invite him for sex in the fields for money, flashing their bananas.
This happened several times a day, and he was deeply frustrated. If we walked together, young men or boys would approach him directly and offer "service" or "Egyptian banana", ignoring me, though we could have been a couple. Straight to the point, no time for sweet talk, when the meter is running.
I used to see men disappear with these boys day and night and come back fifteen minutes later. When a woman went with the same boys, it would take up to an hour, but not in the sugarcane, in some flat.
Am I glad, that I left that neighbourhood...
