is the little "ping" that comes just before the electricity is switched back on after being off for several hours on a gentle 45C summers day in Egypt.

I know I may have said this before, but in Winter when the lights go out, we always have a fire out side on stand by, we light it, and all the people come around and talk. The young boy and girls, who actually are not so young now tell me who they are to marry, and what do I think etc, we roast potatoes and things, who needs TV and internet when you have the real world.

We could certainly do that.....but our neighbours are donkeys and camels. It's hard having a meaningful conversation with them once you have finished discussing the quality of their fodder and scratched their ears a bit ______________________________________

" The flight to Luxor is now boarding" must be near the top of the list - it used to be the 'ping' to announce that the no smoking sign had been turned off.

Strange we do that here too......its called "bonfire night" as well as potatoes we have toffee apples and cinder toffee, and my fave - treacle toffee
I remember the power cuts well, always happened when it was red hot too, and so lovely to hear the fans whirr up again as it came on, I would have thought there weren't so many of them nowadays though. ______________________________________ I don't have a plan......so nothing can go wrong!

The ping raised our hopes but the power lasted 3 minutes the first time (just long enough to heat 2 coffees in the microwave though ) & then went for another couple of hours then came back for less than 1 minute Finally back on, only just over 6 hours altogether
Opened the freezer in trepidation (that room was about 32C for the 6 hours) I needed to check whether stuff had started to defrost so that I could deal with it, & only 1 piece of cauliflower right at the top broke when I squeezed it, everything else was rock hard. Thank heaven for tropicalised freezers.
The fridge freezer had allowed the mixed berry ice cream in there to soften slightly so we ate it! Will have to make some more now. ______________________________________

I was informed this afternoon that it was an acknowledged fact that the local sub station was overloading and causing the cuts Apparantly the Electricity Company have agreed to install a second sub station for our side of the village...after Ramadan. So, we have to endure these intermittant cuts for another 7-8 weeks at least ______________________________________

I was told that the reason the hills are no longer being illuminated (didn't last long did it ) is the lack of electrical power capacity. ______________________________________
