Mint Tea: Seeds & Recipes

Hi!
We love mint tea, and want to grow mint plants in order to have fresh mint leaves to do it. So, anybody knows what are the rigth seeds? We found that are many types of mint and don't know which to search for.

And about of recipes to do mint tea, there are also many on the internet... Do you have some advice on this?

I have just asked Mrs H and she says that it is what she calls 'ordinary' mint, the kind that you would use for mint sauce. It is not Spearmint, or Apple mint, The best results seem to be a good handful of fresh leaves put into a boiling pot of tea with sugar and left to stand.

Do you have any idea of the scientific name? Would it be Mentha Piperita?
We bougth some leaves (dry) of this plant and it seems that it's the rigth one (the one that Mrs H called 'ordinary' mint) it has a strong and intense mint smell.

That's the one, :) but it must be fresh leaves.

[face=Comic Sans MS]Having been introduced to mint tea whilst being amongst the Touregs of West Africa I got hooked.

Horus - I would agree that making with fresh mint is wonderful but it's not essential. I have recently introduced the benefits of mint tea to a certain gentleman of this forum, but there are practical reasons for him not to use the fresh mint leaves. I will ask him to post his recipe here.[/face]

Mentha Piperita is what we call in Portugal 'Hortela-Pimenta' (peppermint), I will try to find seeds. I'm not sure if it's the same that we just call 'Hortela' and that we use to cook.
