how many forum members....
Pinched from a mate that pinched from a forum! way too good NOT to share
How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?
One to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
Fourteen to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
Seven to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
One to move it to the lighting section
Two to argue, then move it to the electrical section
Seven to point out spelling/ grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
Five to flame the spell checkers
Three to correct spelling/ grammar flames
Six to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another six to condemn those six as stupid
Two industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
Fifteen know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
Nineteen to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
Eleven to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
Thirty-six to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
Seven to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs
Four to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URLs
Three to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
Thirteen to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "me too"
Two to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
Five to say, "Didn't we go through this already a few months ago?"
Nine to say, "Do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
One forum lurker to respond to the original post eight months from now and start it all over again

Thanks AnnaD. That is brilliant and so true. I've read similar in the past but it's good to be reminded every now and again - and it's brightened my afternoon (not the lightbulb I hasten to add ).

Re: how many forum members....
What about the one who claims that his great-grandfather went to school with the bloke who invented the lightbulb in the first place?
Seriously though, if your post wasn't quite so close to reality it would be very funny.

Well, TT, my old man often impressed upon me the sad fact that 'It's not what you know, but who you know' which opens doors (and maybe changes lightbulbs) in this world!

Re: how many forum members....
Yes Teddy, and people generally use that phrase to illustrate the fact that some members of society are able to gain unfair advantage in certain situations due to their background and connections rather than their individual merit. I'm sure your father was aware of that whenever he used the phrase. I know mine was whenever he said it. And he never seemed to have any problem changing lightbulbs!

The only MP I ever really knew had to resign in disgrace; holding an elevated position can be the route of tremendous temptation. I feel heart sorry for him now, and he's still a nice chap!

Re: how many forum members....
TB, If he had to resign as a result of some sort of sexual indiscretion then I feel sorry for him as well. After all, we're all human. But if it was some form of financial fraud or abuse of power then I'm inclined to be less sympathetic. Was it anyone we might know of?

This is getting into the sort of area that could be described as 'chat', which I swore never to use.
It wasn't sex, but it was something that 90% of the rest of them were also up to. I think the correct term is 'scapegoat'.

So true AD, but that's why we love it on here, but you forgot the one who hijacks the thread and completely changes the subject

Re: how many forum members....
'Hijacks?' Bit of an overstatement don't you think Phantom? It was only a humorous thread about the changing of lightbulbs and how people over complicate things. My post was in that vein and it evolved from there. Some threads tend to do that, and if they're trivia anyway what's the problem? If you've got anything of great import to say on the subject I'm sure you can soon bring the thread back on track.
