Anyone know what happened there today? Seems to involve shooting deaths and a minibus.

It was yesterday.
Seven Killed in Attack on Coptic Christians Bus in Egypt

NOVEMBER 2, 2018
The Coptic Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Cairo’s Shubra al-Kheima district was the target of a previous attack on August 11, 2018 (AFP)
Seven were killed and at least 7 were wounded after unknown gunmen shot at a bus transporting a group of Coptic Christians in Egypt’s Minya governorate on Friday, Al Ahram reports.
The bus was heading to the Monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor located in the western desert.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Last year, gunmen attacked a bus carrying Coptic Christians in the same area which killed 28 people and wounded 25 others.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi released a statement on Twitter condemning the attacks. He expressed his deepest sorrow and assured his “determination to continue our efforts to combat terrorism and to pursue the perpetrators.”
Attorney General Nabil Ahmed Sadek appointed a team of northern Minya authorities and a team of supreme state security authorities to investigate the site of the incident.

According to a report in the Independent, ISIS are claiming responsibility :
Isis militants ambushed three buses carrying Christian pilgrims on their way to a remote desert monastery south of the Egyptian capital of Cairo, killing seven and wounding 19, according to the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Interior Ministry.
The victims had left St Samuel the Confessor monastery in Minya shortly before the attack on Friday.
All but one of those killed were members of the same family, according to a list of the victims' names released by the church.
The local Isis affiliate which spearheads militants fighting security forces in the Sinai Peninsula claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the extremist group's Amaq news agency.
Though its claim could be not immediately verified, Islamist extremists have previously targeted Christians on the same road south of Cairo.

There are no words for such deeds.
And I've seen a lot of comments on local social media complaining that little protection is, in practice, allocated to Copts...despite them being an obvious. and repeated, target of islamic terrorism. E.g. :
M*********** "Egypt’s Interior Ministry has claimed that, due to security and safety instructions, the main road leading to the monastery had been closed which prompted the bus use a back road. The gunmen also made use of the ‘back’ secondary road in the largely-remote monastery area to carry out the attack"
Disturbed by this. Then why not secure the back-secondary road????
M********** Egypt needs a real secular regime that doesn't discriminate between people based on their religion. This should be clear as a sun in people's everyday life. All these nonsense religious absurdity of how peaceful should a Muslim treat a Christian should end. Every religious figure should shut his mouth off and let this country to be ruled based on citizenship rights.
El*********** If you know there are a back road why you dont secure it? A77a on this Country!

Coptic Christian attack: Egypt police 'kill 19 attackers'.
Nineteen Islamist militants accused of carrying out a deadly attack on Christians in Egypt have been killed by police, the interior ministry says.
They died in a shoot-out after police pursued "fugitive terrorist elements" into the desert area west of Minya province, the statement said.
Seven Coptic Christians were killed in an attack on two buses near a monastery in Minya on Friday.
The Islamic State (IS) group has said it carried out the attack.
It was the latest in a series of attacks by extremists on Egypt's Coptic Christian minority.
The ministry said security forces had exchanged fire with "terrorist elements" they were pursuing, although it did not say exactly when the firefight happened.
The ministry posted images of bodies and a tent in which the militants were said to have been hiding. Guns, rifles and IS propaganda can be seen next to the bodies.
Friday's attack near the Monastery of St Samuel the Confessor in Minya also left at least seven other people wounded, including children, according to reports.
Funerals were held for the victims on Friday and Saturday, with many mourners expressing their anger.
"What do these terrorists want? Do they want us to hate Muslims?" said Michel, 23, who lost a neighbour in the attack.
The Copts, who make up most of the Christian minority, have in the past accused the authorities in Muslim-majority Egypt of making only token gestures to protect them from such attacks.
One at the same spot left 28 dead in May 2017.

Who are the Coptic Christians?
The Coptic Orthodox Church is the main Christian Church in Egypt. While most Copts live there, the church has about a million members outside the country.
Copts believe that their faith dates back to about AD50, when the Apostle Mark is said to have visited Egypt. The head of the church is called the Pope, and is considered to be the successor of Saint Mark.
The Coptic Church separated from other Christian denominations at the Council of Chalcedon in 451, in a dispute over the human and divine nature of Jesus Christ.
The current Coptic Pope, Tawadros II, stepped away from social media last month by closing his official Facebook page.

Re: Incident in Minya
They can exchange gunfire all the time it would not bother me, but you can bet half the time they are shooting at the wrong people to get hunting trophies to put on display. The capture and reported slaying of terrorists, seems to happen too quick after the initial incident, even top investigators who have both the equipment and know how, do not find the perpetrators that fast and when they do they prefer to capture them alive and gain information rather than collect what I call photograph trophies for the satisfaction of people to say how great they are. This side of things is such poor propaganda that they are no more guilty of murder than the actual murderer's themselves and makes a mockery of true justice. How many incidents in the real world end up in gunfights at the OK Corral, not many, where in this Country everything ends up being a gunfight.

And the Mexican government is demanding an explanation as to the whereabouts of 19 of its citizens on an escorted tour around the desert area of Minya.
