Being Gay in Luxor

Post by Aligator44 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 12:21 am

Is homosexuality legal in Egypt and if not, how safe would it be for an all-female couple to live in Luxor?
When I've travelled to Egypt before on holiday, I've never known how explicit I could be. Would love to get some perspectives from people who live there, especially Egyptians!

Homosexuality is illegal in Egypt but I suspect rather like Queen Victoria they don't believe it could happen between women. If you google the queen boat you can read what happened to homosexuals at a private party in Cairo

Egyptian men would all believe it is because you have never met a real man and offer themselves.

The authorites would not really be interested in a foreign couple who are in a committed relationship but you are best keeping your private life very private.

Discretion. As long as you are discrete you would have no problem in Luxor. Yes, you will get the normal harassment from the Luxor gutter sluts as just about every woman in Luxor does, but that can be shrugged off and treated with the contempt it deserves. You wouldn't be overtly demonstrative in towns and cities in Cornwall so why would you want to be here.

As Kevin says if you were discrete you'd be treated just the same as all other women in Luxor......

"Many men here think that homosexuality is all about sex!"

Is it not then? I would have thought that the last five syllables of the word would have given the game away, slightly. I actually love a great number of men, and my wife doesn't mind at all, as only wanting, and having, sex with them would make me a homosexual, surely?

p.s. If you're looking for gay people here, then there have been thousands of them all over Luxor during the past few days, as they thoroughly enjoyed the gaiety of the Moulid!

Oh, for goodness sake. This topic died two years ago – look at the dates! Or is there a "conspiracy" to get "gay" back on the agenda because it might attract a lot posts...

Oh dear, another faux pas by me! I only noticed the date on Phantom's offering, and therefore beg forgiveness for my lack of observation?
Perhaps Keefy could delete these old (possibly contentious) postings, then they couldn't be dragged up again and so upset some of the members?

I am locking this topic.

It does not really belong in Introductions and the OP has not taken any further part in it since it was started in 2010. I don't know why it was suddenly brought into use in May of this year, but I can see that Phantom probably fell into the same trap of thinking it was a relatively new thread.
