Open doors Day.

Luxor has both Christian and Moslem communities and the politics of the Middle East are equally diverse. Air your views on the situation.

Open doors Day.

Post by Scottishtourist »

Every once in a while, one of our major cities (Glasgow)participates in an "Open Doors Day."
It's an opportunity to see "alternate"venues in a multi-cultural society at no cost..and it is a most worthwhile venture.

Last time it was on,I went with my brother. What a wonderful day we had.
As everyone knows..I am Roman Catholic.
The "Open Doors"invite included the "Grand Mosque"in Glasgow,as well as the major Synagogue.Other "Protestant"churches and museums were also available for those who wanted to visit.
The Mosque and Synagogue were my favourites. We were both welcomed, respected and entertained by a Muslim and Jewish
"guide."These people were born in Scotland, sons of immigrants..and are delighted that they can practice their faith here free.

We also visited the "High Kirk"The very seat of the "protestant"religion.Another Christian branch..but with different ideas from our own.Once again it was enlightening!

So..here's the question!
If there was an "Open Doors"day in Luxor..where would you visit?

Where are the athiests?
Would you feign interest and go along?

If you are Muslim..would you show any interest at all?

Or would any of you just say "forget it"...I got no interest in religion, and I am unwilling to even consider it!

Any views?

I find religious architecture very interesting and the placement of such places, especially here in the UK.
All those imposing buildings, which must have cost a bob or 2...

I have even inadvertently visited the Vatican once, it took me a few minutes to realise where I had wandered into..

If we did have a so called and advertised ''open door day,'' I would stay firmly rooted to my front one as some barsteward would 'accidentally' wander off with my 52'' screen.

Can you elaborate on the "with different ideas" ? Just curious - what ideas are different?

Not like you to be so imprecise BY.

No law on earth can dictate what does or does not exist.
Atheists (and there are some in Egypt) are not punished for being atheists.

They can be punished for promoting, encouraging, etc.atheism

When my mum came over for a visit 2 years ago, Omar took her to several of the Coptic churches, half a dozen mosques, the huge Christian place in Tod, with the old Coptic stuff inside, and one of the oldest mosques in Luxor, also in Tod. She was welcomed and chatted to many of their guys in charge. I don't think you need an open doors day in Luxor. Its always been very welcoming to all faiths

So there are no official forms that require one to be Muslim/Jewish/Coptic? There is a space for "none-of-the-above"? One can register for a vote/passport/marriage without specifying which of the three main monotheistic religions one is a member of? One is allowed to be an "infidel"?

There are many definitions of Gentile. What do you have in mind?

Somewhat irrelevant to the point.

The law does not say there are no atheists in Egypt. It does not recognise them in an official sense. Nor is there an offence of "being" an atheist.

I assume atheists put down muslim or whatever on forms rather than make a fuss.

It's not as if it's likely to trouble their conscience.

Although both are revered by many, the gentiles, like genitals, should be keep from sight in any Arabic country. IMHO.

Well, I'm not too sure here Brian, my mate is Jewish, and he tells me that all 4by2's travel up to heaven by escalator. He has told me that should I be allowed 'upstairs', which in his humble opinion, thinks this may not be so, I may have to walk up a load of stairs. Now, set aside my bad leg here, these Gentiles, will they be in the same group as that wonderful nation of Philistines ?
